From the introduction by Paul Diel: "This personal diary of a psychoanalytic patient illustrates a method of healing which, unlike retrospection and pansexuality, is based on the study of inner motivations... Considering that the search for truth, especially the truth about oneself, is a need common to all human beings and one which runs deeper than the need for camouflage, I felt it might be useful to publish this document. This diary, but documenting the author's progress, may help the watchful reader recognize himself and encourage him in the secret battle being waged within his own mind."

The privileged link psychoanalysis has to spoken languages does not necessarily facilitate communication among analysts and psychotherapists of different mother tongues. The JEP European Journal of Psychoanalysis - which has been published since 1995 - seeks to overcome these linguistic barriers. It introduces the English reader to important European authors, as well as to authors of, for example, Latin American countries, whose paradigms are close to European "styles." Anyway the JEP European Journal of Psychoanalysis will publish not only translations, but also papers by English-speaking contributors whose works are close to European currents. The journal is not the official organ of any particular school. Material is chosen solely in terms of quality, originality and relevance to international debates in psychoanalytic and psychotherapeutic fields. Similarly, significant, hard-to-pigeonhole authors and works falling outside any particular trend are also presented. The JEP European Journal of Psychoanalysis presents debates and trends within psychoanalysis and other related fields (including philosophical, anthropological, literary and historical contributions). Psychoanalysis has practical, ethical, and theoretical implications relevant not only to clinical practice, but also to politics and social policy, philosophy, cultural studies and the social sciences. This is why JEP has included papers by many authors who work (exclusively or also) in fields other than psychoanalysis, as well as authors mainly involved in clinical practice such as N. Braunstein, H. Bresheet, C. Castoriadis, V. Crapanzano, J. Cremerius, J. Derrida, F. Dolto, R. Girard, B. Grunberger, H. Kachele, O. Kernberg, B. Kilborne, J. Kristeva, P. Lacoue-Labarthe, J. Laplanche, S. Leclaire, J.-F. Lyotard, R. Major, I. Matte Blanco, J.-L. Nancy, D. Nobus, G. Obeyesekere, M. Perniola, P. Roazen, R. Rorty, E. Roudinesco, J. Searle, P. Valesio, F. Varela, G. Vattimo, J.-P. Vernant, Paul L. Wachtel, Y. H. Yerushalmi, S. i ek, etc. The journal provides an international forum for the exploration of the frontiers of psychoanalytic inquiry, giving voice to diverse perspectives, research, and clinical practice which link and transform the many partial understandings."

`As someone who is often engaged in trying to clarify psychoanalytic ideas for others (and for myself) I found this book inspiring and useful in many ways but perhaps most notably in its skilful re-visiting and articulation of what happens in psychoanalysis and why it is helpful' - Journal Child Psychotherapy `... well constructed and easily digested book' - Mental Health Nursing `This well-written and understandable book will be useful to a cross-section of professional as well as the general-public'- Community Care `This is quite simply the best introduction to psychoanalysis ever written. It is uncluttered yet the interested reader will find most of what they need to know about what psychoanalysis is and is not, with ample links connecting to where to find the rest. The book is exceptionally accessible, balanced and entertaining. There is no need to search any longer as to what to recommend to anyone who wants to orient themselves around this complex field'- Peter Fonagy, Freud Memorial Professor of Psychoanalysis, University College, London and Chief Executive, Anna Freud Centre, London A Short Introduction to Psychoanalysis is a down-to-earth guide to arguably the most misunderstood of all the psychological therapies. With reference to contemporary developments in theory and practice, the book explains what psychoanalysis really is, providing the reader with an overview of its: } basic concepts } historical development } main critiques, and } research base. Demonstrating the far reaching influence of psychoanalysis, the authors - all practicing psychoanalysts - describe how its concepts have been applied beyond the consulting room and examine its place within the spectrum of other psychological theories. In his new book, Considering the Nature of Psychoanalysis: The Persistence of a Paradoxical Discourse, Gregorio Kohon describes the complexity of the psychoanalytic encounter, questioning the misguided attempts to simplify and/or reduce it to either art or science. Kohon disputes the contemporary use of parameters offered by evidence-based medicine as a research model to study psychoanalysis. Instead, he proposes to reconsider the relevance of the psychoanalytic single case study, its importance and pre-eminence. The present book will be of great interest to all psychotherapists, councillors, psychiatrists, mental health workers and students and academics of the social sciences.

Founded on the in-depth discussion of sixteen clinical cases of psychoanalysis, this book answers the question of what psychoanalysts do when they are practicing psychoanalysis. The authors have collaborated with over a thousand colleagues worldwide to collect a unique dataset of everyday clinical sessions, using a new workshop discussion method designed to reveal differences. Faced with diversity and wanting to surface and understand it, they had to evolve a new theoretical framework. This framework covers different approaches to the analytic situation (using the metaphors of cinema, dramatic monologue, theater, and immersive theater): different sources of data to infer unconscious content; differences in the troubles patients unconsciously experience and how to approach them; and differences in when, about what, and how a psychoanalyst should talk. Taking the form of eleven very practical questions for psychoanalysts to ask of each session they conduct, the framework helps experienced psychoanalysts and students alike determine their intention and independently assess their progress. A final chapter applies the new framework and practical questions to contemporary technical controversies with some surprising results.

The Common Ground Of Psychoanalysis written by Robert S. Wallerstein and has been published by Jason Aronson this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 1992 with Psychology categories.

Wallerstein examines what holds psychoanalysts together as common adherents of a shared science and profession. He describes what the diverse perspectives have in common and what differentiates them, all together, from all the other theories of mental life. The common ground rests in the shared clinical enterprise in consulting rooms where therapists relate comparably to the immediacy of the transference-counter-transference interplay with their patients. He applies these conceptions to clinical material of three of the major perspectives in the field: the ego psychological, the Kleinian, and the object relational.
