Excerpt from Journal of Psycho-Asthenics, Vol. 19: September, 1914; Devoted to the Care, Training and Treatment of the Feeble-Minded and Epileptic The aim of the extension department of the Training School at Vineland, New Jersey, is to assist in any movement looking toward adequate care for all feeble-minded. The department wishes to give information and advice, not to undertake the task of directing the establishment of institutions, colonies, etc. Many experimental steps have been tried out at the Training School and in New Jersey, but this department has no desire to use these except as demonstrations of what may be done. Its distinctive work is publicity and propaganda and it desires to make widely known the best that is now being done in every state. Although the object to be obtained has become well defined, the beginnings were rather hazy and the various steps have been somewhat those of the opportunist. As early as 1896 it was seen that the best place to recognize the feeble-minded was in the public schools, and in that year an attempt was made to get a report of the numbers in the schools of Allen County, Indiana.
