يعد السائح وعلاقته بالمواقع السياحية الميدان الواسع لدراسة الجغرافية السياحية، التي تركز على العلاقات بين عناصر البيئة ونشاطات الإنسان، والآثار المتبادلة بينهما، والتي تنعكس بدورها على طبيعة المواقع السياحية، وبهذا فهي تركز على تفسير وتحليل الظواهر وخصائصها وأنماطها وأشكالها، وليست مجرد وصف روتيني لهذه الظواهر، فينصب اهتمامها على دراسة الظواهر البشرية والطبيعية وكل ما يتعلق بالإنسان ونشاطه داخل المواقع السياحية، والعوامل التي تؤثر على هذا النشاط، ومدى تأثر الإنسان ونشاطه بالظواهر والعوامل الطبيعية إن السياحة كصناعة أصبحت تلعب دورا بارزاً في دعم اقتصاديات العديد من الدول، وتنشيطها؛ لكونها من جهة أداة فعالة ومؤثرة في قيام صناعات أخرى وتنميتها وما يتبع ذلك من زيادة في فرص العمل وفي تحسين مستوى المعيشة، ومن جهة أخرى أصبحت مصدرا مهما للقطاعات التي تساهم في تمويل المشاريع السياحية، ناهيك عن الآثار الاجتماعية والثقافية والبيئية التي تنشأ من خلال مجموعات السياح ذوي اللغات والثقافات والعادات والمعتقدات المتباينة، ومن خلال اختلاطهم واحتكاكهم بشعوب أخرى، ويبرز دورها أيضا بكونها أداة فعالة وإيجابية في إزالة المتناقضات، وتخفيف نسبة الفوارق بين الشعوب، وإظهار الصورة الحقيقية للبلد المستقبل للسياح وتصحيح المعتقدات الخاطئة ينطلق هذا الكتاب من فكرة أساسيه مفادها أن السياحه هي عبارة عن عمليه Process وعلينا فهمها والتعامل معها ضمن هذه السياق، فعملية تطور المجتمع تقود الى مشاركة الأفراد أو الجماعات في الرحلات السياحية، ويمر المرء في عملية متعددة الخطوات لأخذ قرار السفر كما يمر المكان السياحي في مراحل متعدده من التطور أو التحول، ويشكل هذا محور اهتمام الجغرافيا السياحية فالمنهجية المتبعة في هذا الكتاب تتمثل في التركيز على دراسة القضايا والمواضيع الجغرافية الجوهرية في السياحة (المحميات الطبيعية، ومظاهر السطح وعلاقتها بصناعة السياحة، والتأثيرات الجغرافية لصناعة السياحة، والتوزيع الجغرافي لأنماط السياحة في الأردن، والمقومات الجغرافية ودورها في صناعة السياحة) التي تفضي بدورها إلى بلورة إطار تنظيمي للكتاب، وفي كل موضوع من الموضوعات الجغرافية تم دراسة وتسليط الضوء على العلاقات والتفاعل بين السكان والسياح والبيئات الطبيعية التي يتركزون فيها في الأردن، وسيساهم كل عامل من العوامل الجغرافية، سواءاً كان طبيعياً (مناخياً) أو بشرياً (اقتصادياً)، في خلق فسيفساء متناسقة من الأقاليم السياحية إن المحور الأساسي لهذا الكتاب هو إستقصاء التغيرات التي حدثت بفعل السياحة خلال الاونة الأخيرة في الأردن، بقصد فهم كيفية تأثير وتأثر السياح بوسطهم البيئي الطبيعي داخل المواقع السياحية في الأردن، وتعكس مكونات وفصول الكتاب بمدخله المنهجي والاستراتيجي، مبدأ الشمولية Comprehensive والتكاملية Integrated لعملية فهم الجغرافيا السياحية في الأردن،مع التأكيد على عوامل الاستدامة Sustainability ،ويشتمل كل فصل من فصول الكتاب وعددها ستة أربعة ،على الأفكار الرئيسة للموضوع الذي يتناوله وطرح الأمثلة المتعلقة بها تناول الفصل الأول مراحل تطور الفكر النظري في جغرافية السياحة بما يتضمنه من توضيح مراحل تطور جغرافية السياحة والجوانب التطبيقية بهذا العلم والمناهج المستخدمة به، إضافة إلى بيان خطوات الأسلوب العلمي المتبع بالدراسات المعتمة بالجغرافيا السياحية، أما الفصل الثاني ركز على موضوع جغرافية الأردن مع بيان أهمية الموقع الجغرافي للأردن وأشكال سطح الأرض ودورها في صناعة السياحية، إضافة إلى القاء الضوء على موضوعات المياه والسكان في الأردن ناقش الفصل الثالث مقومات صناعة السياحة في الأردن، من حيث خصائص صناعة السياحة، وأنماط صناعة السياحة في الأردن، بالإضافة إلى المقومات الجغرافية للمواقع السياحية، وتقسيمها إلى مقومات طبيعية وأخرى بشرية، وانتهى الفصل بالتحليل المكاني لأنماط واتجاهات الحركة السياحية في المواقع السياحية في الأردن تضمن الفصل الرابع التقنيات الخاصة بعلم الجغرافيا السياحية، وتم التطرق إلى تطبيقات نظم المعلومات الجغرافية والاستشعار عن بعد في الدراسات السياحية، إضافة إلى تطبيقات في فهم الخريطة السياحية وأهمية الاعتماد عليها في الدراسات السياحية، وانتهى الفصل بالإشارة إلى أهم المناهج العلمية المستخدمة في دراسات الجغرافيا السياحية.وأخيرا آمل أن يكون هذا الكتاب ذا فائدة لكل المهتمين في هذا الموضوع على مختلف مراحلهم الدراسية
