One woman embarked on a dance journey around the world, finding out how each dance tells a story of its country and learning how beautiful life can be when you take the lead. If you could do anything you wanted, what would it be? Aliénor Salmon was working as a happiness researcher in Bangkok when a friend asked her the question that turned life as she knew it on its heels. A novice dancer but experienced social researcher, the Franco-British Aliénor headed west from Bangkok to dance her way through Latin America. As she learns eighteen dances, each native to the countries she visits, she engages with esoteric customs, traditions, and cultures. Through conversations and arduous studio hours, she learns that every step, pivot, and shake thrums with an undeniable spirit of place. And that in a world where we are over-connected but increasingly disconnected from one another, dance offers an authentically human experience. One that allows her to develop tolerance, kindness, truth, and love by holding the hands of a stranger and gazing into their eyes for the time of a song. With her fearless and candid approach, Aliénor will inspire you to take the reins of your own life—and have some fun along the way. In this dance-travelogue, you’ll learn the history and steps of dances like salsa, samba, and tango, enjoy a resplendent meditation on happiness and wanderlust, and receive a life-affirming answer to the question: How do I take the first step?

A Dancer S Journey written by Mary Price Boday and has been published by Dog Ear Publishing this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2013-03 with Biography & Autobiography categories.

Mary Anthony is one of the unrecognized heroes in the history of modern dance. During the time she taught for Hanya Holm, she trained Alwin Nikolais and later in her own school, her teaching was an influence on the lives of many dancers. Despite her influence, Mary is not recognized on the modern dance history tree. Hopefully this biography will change that and bring this hidden diamond into the light for all to see. A Dancer's Journey - It All Began with a Lie covers Mary Anthony's childhood, as well as the joys and hardships she experienced in the course of achieving her dreams. Included is the creation of her school, and later, her company. The book explores her golden years, her struggles, and surviving her greedy landlord in New York City. These events illustrate her tenacity and ability to withstand and conquer the many challenges in her life. Mary Price Boday, Master Teacher, Choreographer, and Dance Specialist earned her Bachelor and Master of Fine Arts Degrees from the University of Oklahoma. Part Cherokee Indian, she danced professionally in New York City with Leonard Fowler Ballet, Mary Anthony Dance Theatre, Pearl Lang Dance Company, Larry Richardson Dance Company, and the Gaku Dance Company (Dick Gain, Dick Kuch, and Sophie Maslow). In Switzerland, she danced in the ballet companies of St Gallen Stadt Theatre Ballet and the Zurich Ballet. Her teaching experience includes Harkness Ballet, St Gallen Ballet, Zurich Ballet, University of Illinois, David Howard Summer Workshops, Mercyhurst College, Illinois Ballet (artistic director), Oklahoma City Ballet, and Oklahoma City University. Mary's has choreographed for Harkness Ballet 2, St Gallen Ballet, University of Illinois, Mercyhurst College, the Illinois Ballet, Opera Illinois, and Mary and Friends.
