“Eat, Pray, Love” Meets “When You Look Like Your Passport Photo, It’s Time to Go Home” Travel! Adventure! Romance! What could possibly go wrong? It’s 1972 when free-spirited “good girl,” Fay, takes off on a 3-year journey around the U.S. and Europe in search of adventure. She soon finds navigating her way through The Real World will take a skill set her Sunday school teacher never taught her. Bravely facing all manor of revenge plagues rained down upon from The Almighty—she is breaking The Rules, after all—Fay must learn to recalibrate her conservative group-think or abandon her road-trip-as-a-lifestyle existence and retreat to the soul-crushing community from which she escaped. Part historical snapshot, part travelogue and part confessional, this laugh-out-loud memoir is the story of every woman who has pondered the road not taken or grappled with the guilt of not being able to live up to rules she didn't even make.

Teaching Proper Drinking written by Maggie Brady and has been published by ANU Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2017-12-12 with Social Science categories.

In Teaching ‘Proper’ Drinking?, the author brings together three fields of scholarship: socio-historical studies of alcohol, Australian Indigenous policy history and social enterprise studies. The case studies in the book offer the first detailed surveys of efforts to teach responsible drinking practices to Aboriginal people by installing canteens in remote communities, and of the purchase of public hotels by Indigenous groups in attempts both to control sales of alcohol and to create social enterprises by redistributing profits for the community good. Ethnographies of the hotels are examined through the analytical lens of the Swedish ‘Gothenburg’ system of municipal hotel ownership. The research reveals that the community governance of such social enterprises is not purely a matter of good administration or compliance with the relevant liquor legislation. Their administration is imbued with the additional challenges posed by political contestation, both within and beyond the communities concerned. ‘The idea that community or government ownership and management of a hotel or other drinking place would be a good way to control drinking and limit harm has been commonplace in many Anglophone and Nordic countries, but has been less recognised in Australia. Maggie Brady’s book brings together the hidden history of such ideas and initiatives in Australia … In an original and wide-ranging set of case studies, Brady shows that success in reducing harm has varied between communities, largely depending on whether motivations to raise revenue or to reduce harm are in control.’ — Professor Robin Room, Director, Centre for Alcohol Policy Research, La Trobe University

With Missing Persons in hand you'll find the types that commonly become PIs - ex-cops, macho criminal wannabes, reporters; the easiest people to find (men, property owners and professionals) and the hardest (women, scoundrels and those with common names); profiles of the missing and profiles of those searching; how and why people hide; what can be gleaned from public record; secret and not-so-secret databases; and the lowdown on interviewing, surveillance and the benefits of a good scam. Missing Persons goes beyond the basic search, and details the process of looking for someone, typical clients and the reaction once the missing is found. There's more than a presentation of facts here. Faron backs up her clues with anecdotes from Rat Dog case files. As with any good whodunit, Faron's engaging style and true-life adventures will have you turning pages. In short, every gumshoe's search should begin here.

Journey Of A Teetotaling Virgin written by Fay Faron and has been published by this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 1991-03 with Biography & Autobiography categories.

It's 1972. A free spirited young woman shuns her parents' expectations that she marry and procreate, instead taking off to travel the world in pursuit of adventure. Working her way around the U.S. with her tart-tongued travel mate, she longs for "The One" who keeps getting away, even while dodging the one who won't go away. Along the way, Fay finds nickel-and-dime jobs like driving a Good Humor truck in Pre-Silicon Valley, selling sewing machines door-to-door in Appalachia and working as an unlicensed veterinarian in a New England puppy mill barely pay the rent-even with affordable housing options like the storefront she rents in Sarasota, Florida and a five-story walk up apartment in Boston's North End. In the chapter entitled, "When Teetotaling Goes Awry, Can Virginity Be Far Behind?" Fay's status as the last remaining 22-year-old "good girl" in America ends in New Orleans not with a sigh, but a sob. Her new unplanned status leaves her wandering about in a sexually-charged world her Christian upbringing left her unprepared for. Feeling like she went off to discover gold in California only to have her wagon train break down in Death Valley, she navigates premarital sex, guilt, date-rape, pregnancy scares, emotional blackmail, sexual harassment and unrequited love, her only support system the good angel/bad angel team of Celeste and Javier who inhabit her dreams, both offering more platitudes than problem-solving. Journey of a Teetotaling Virgin is a pilgrimage as internal as it is geographical. Part historical snapshot, part travelogue and part confessional, this comically tragic, laugh-out-loud coming-of-age memoir is dedicated to every woman who has pondered the road not taken or grappled with the guilt of not being able to live up to rules she didn't even make.

Showtime written by Jeff Pearlman and has been published by Penguin this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2014-03-04 with Sports & Recreation categories.

The New York Times bestselling author of Sweetness delivers the first all-encompassing account of the 1980s Los Angeles Lakers, one of professional sports’ most-revered—and dominant—dynasties. The Los Angeles Lakers of the 1980s personified the flamboyance and excess of the decade over which they reigned. Beginning with the arrival of Earvin “Magic” Johnson as the number-one overall pick of the 1979 draft, the Lakers played basketball with gusto and pizzazz, unleashing their famed “Showtime” run-and-gun style on a league unprepared for their speed and ferocity—and became the most captivating show in sports and, arguably, in all-around American entertainment. The Lakers’ roster overflowed with exciting all-star-caliber players, including center Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, and they were led by the incomparable Pat Riley, known for his slicked-back hair, his Armani suits, and his arrogant strut. Hollywood’s biggest celebrities lined the court and gorgeous women flocked to the arena. Best of all, the team was a winner. Between 1980 and 1991, the Lakers played in an unmatched nine NBA championship series, capturing five of them. Bestselling sportswriter Jeff Pearlman draws from almost three hundred interviews to take the first full measure of the Lakers’ epic Showtime era. A dazzling account of one of America’s greatest sports sagas, Showtime is packed with indelible characters, vicious rivalries, and jaw-dropping, behind-the-scenes stories of the players’ decadent Hollywood lifestyles. From the Showtime era’s remarkable rise to its tragic end—marked by Magic Johnson’s 1991 announcement that he had contracted HIV—Showtime is a gripping narrative of sports, celebrity, and 1980s-style excess.
