At the great summer fair in the capital city of Sommerhjem, the evil Regent is forced to step down due to the calling of the Gylden Sirklene challenge, leaving the future of the country hanging in the balance. One year to the day the challenge is called, all nine pieces of the oppgave ringe must be delivered to the capital. Four are already there, but five more need to be found. Chance, a dreamer and adventure seeker, has been chosen by his family to return to Sommerhjem to retrieve a piece of the oppgave ringe his father hid before the family fled the country to escape certain demise. But what he thought would be a grand adventure turns out to be more than he bargained for; he is thrown into the brig on a smuggler's ship, and that only marks the beginning of his troubles. Meanwhile, Yara secures work in the royal library, where she secretly begins researching the whereabouts of a piece of the oppgave ringe her family was once charged with keeping safe. But what she eventually uncovers soon takes her and her fox companion, Toki, on a dangerous expedition to Sommerhjem's border. In this continuing fantasy, two seekers embark on separate journeys to find treasured objects and return them to their rightful place without any idea of where life is about to take each of them.

The cults of the saints were central to the medieval Church. These holy men and women acted as patrons and protectors to the religious communities who housed their relics and to the devotees who requested their assistance in petitioning God for a miracle. Among the collections of posthumous miracle stories, miracula, accounts of holy healing feature prominently and depict cure-seekers successfully securing their desired remedy for a range of ailments and afflictions. What can these miracle accounts tell us of the cure-seekers' experiences of their journey from ill health to recovery, and how was healthcare presented in these sources? This book undertakes an in-depth study of the miraculous cure-seeking process through the lens of Latin miracle accounts produced in twelfth-century England, a time both when saints' cults particularly flourished and there was an increasing transmission and dissemination of classical and Arabic medical works. Focused on shorter miracula with a predominantly localised focus, and thus on a select group of cure-seekers, it brings together studies of healthcare and pilgrimage to look at an alternative to medical intervention and the practicalities and processes of securing saintly assistance.

This book explores the asylum journey of non-European asylum applicants who seek asylum in Turkey before resettling in Canada with the aid of the Canadian government’s assisted resettlement programme. Based on ethnographic research among Syrian, Afghan, Eritrean, Ethiopian, Iraqi, Iranian, Somali, Sudanese and Congolese nationals it considers the interactions of asylum seekers with both UNHCR’s refugee status determination and Canada’s refugee resettlement programme. With attention to the practices of migrants, the author shows how the asylum journey contains both mobility and stasis and constitutes a micro-political image of the fluidity and relativity of attributed identities and labels on the part of state migration systems. A multi-sited ethnography that shows how the migration journey is linked to the production and reproduction of knowledge, as well as the diffusion of produced knowledge among past, present, and future asylum seekers who form trans-local social networks in the course of their route, in Turkey, and in Canada. Tracing Asylum Journeys will appeal to sociologists and political scientists with interests in migration and transnational studies, and refugee and asylum settlement.

Fran Berkell-Rafferty was in college when she first saw the quote by Dag Hammarskjold, “If only I may grow: firmer, simpler, quieter, warmer.” Throughout the next four decades while busy pursuing degrees, marrying, and raising a family, she would often pause and question whether she was growing in direction of that mantra. In a collection of philosophical musings based on her personal experiences, Berkell-Rafferty reflects on her determination to grow firmer, simpler, quieter, and warmer as she aged while helping others to see how the simplest offerings of nature’s bounty can connect us to understanding the absolute complexities that we face day-to-day. Throughout her gems of hard-earned wisdom and observations of the natural world around her, she invites others to refill their spiritual wells and reflect on their own remarkable journey through life. A Seeker’s Journey shares thoughtful writings and wisdom that encourage those in search of inner peace to seek light from the darkness to grow firmer, simpler, quieter, and warmer.

Circuitous Journeys: Modern Spiritual Autobiography provides a close reading and analysis of ten major life stories by twentieth-century leaders and thinkers from a variety of religious and cultural traditions: Mohandas Gandhi, Black Elk, Thomas Merton, Dorothy Day, C. S. Lewis, Malcolm X, Paul Cowan, Rigoberta Menchu, Dan Wakefield, and Nelson Mandela. The book uses approaches from literary criticism, developmental psychology (influenced by Erik Erikson, James Fowler, and Carol Gilligan), and spirituality (influenced by John S. Donne, Emile Griffin, Walter Conn, and Bernard Lonergan). Each text is read in the light of the autobiographical tradition begun by St. Augustine’s Confessions, but with a focus on distinctively modern and post-modern transformations of the self-writing genre. The twentieth-century context of religious alienation, social autonomy, identity crises and politics, and the search for social justice is examined in each text.

Man's heart is a divine gift from God which shall be examined upon his death. This has been disclosed to man as far back as 3,500 BCE in the Egyptian Book of the Dead. From literal evidence, the Chinese came from the Tower of Babel, Sumeria, present IRAQ and were monotheist. From other captivating information in the Old Testatment, and the Temple of Heaven in Beijing, The Chinese are related by blood to Abraham. The Tao Te Ching confirms the closeness between the New Testament and the Tao Te Ching between their relations. And Confusius wrote the moral laws and the Chinese practise them up to this day. My journey brought me through the ancient Chinese civilisation, Jesus Christ teachings up to the coming of the Holy Koran with the seal of God’s prophets in 633 AD. Cover picture: A Chinese Urn with an image of a Chinese mosque found in the Malacca Seas after 500 years. “He has written an interesting book on his search for God and meaning in his life. The story of how he became a Muslim is fascinating.” Professor Tommy Koh, Professor of Law, National University of Singapore “Mission Accomplished. A brilliantly chronicled autobiography of a Singapore lawyer, weaned from a childhood of eye-opening brushes with religious coexistence that step by step led to his embrace of a faith which friends – and foes alike – were caught unaware by its conviction. Tracing the roots of righteousness right down from ancient texts to modern interpretations, it is a scholarly penned chronology of his life-long desire to understand why mankind exist to do the right things. Jeffrey Low, His old Soccer mate, Ex-Straits Times Sportswriter “..... how Rugby as a ruffian’s game played by gentlemen, from which sport he made the lifelong friends; and his look at philosophy and religion, which have brought him to accept the Five Pillars of Islam. An essential read for those who wish to gain an insight on how multi-racial and religious Singapore play in the moulding of the modern Singapore persona!” Jen Shek Voon, Chartered Accountant MComm (Hons.) “Completed reading your book.
