Journey with Jesus through the Message of Mark is an insightful and engaging survey of Mark's Gospel, exploring each major section of the text along with key themes. It is a work that can be enjoyed by laypersons as well as pastors and teachers. Pastors will find the abundant use of illustrations to be helpful in preparing their own messages and as such, it will find a welcome place in the preacher's library. Simply, powerfully, with great precision, and exegetical accuracy, Kieran Beville masterfully brings us on a life-transforming journey. Readers will be both inspired and challenged as they hear the words of Jesus speaking afresh from the page of Scripture and experience the ministry of Jesus in a spiritually captivating way. The author has a pastor's heart, a theologian's mind, and a writer's gift. His style is gripping, as he beautifully explains and illustrates Mark's Gospel. Kieran Beville has done a great service to the church, and especially to true believers, who desire to grow in grace, increase in their knowledge of truth, and experience the intimacy, joy, and undeserved and unspeakable privilege of walking, as disciples, with Jesus. This book is ideal as a study companion for Mark’s Gospel. One can read a section from the gospel and then read the corresponding section to receive a fresh viewpoint and a practical application. The author often helpfully refers to background and historical information from the Ancient Middle-East that would not otherwise be easily understood by modern western readers. Many times, there will be cross references to other passages of Scripture, thereby connecting Mark’s writing with other important passages from the Bible. Other times the author provides insights from current events, history, literature, church life, or his rich personal experience. These draw out the ongoing relevance of the Gospel of Mark. Journey with Jesus is coordinated with the chapters of Mark. Each section is divided appropriately with the modern scholarly understanding of the Gospel. The volume concludes with helpful essays on “Who Killed Jesus?”, “Judas Iscariot” and “Pontius Pilate.”

Jesus is the most influential man who ever lived. More has been spoken, written, and sung about him than any other person in history. And yet, as his story makes its way through the filters of time and culture, much has been lost--if not replaced. Can we peal back the layers of religion, politics, and sentimentality to discover Jesus' true mission and message? Is it possible to shake off our preconceptions and prejudices and simply experience Jesus as his first followers did? Yes. Through the written words of a man named John Mark. The Gospel of Mark is the earliest and shortest of the New Testament's four narratives of the life and mission of Christ, written within three decades of the actual events. It's straightforward, action-packed, and disarmingly honest--probably because it's the Apostle Peter's personal account as told to his protégé and scribe, John Mark. His story has one simple purpose: to present unequivocal testimony that Jesus is God's Son, the Savior.Attorney and educator Vince Wilcox is your guide through 100 short episodes covering all 16 chapters of Mark. Developed for individual or small group use, this devotional study includes clear Bible teaching, practical insight, and daily prayers.

What Christian would not want to hear Mark's gospel as the first believers heard it? Using the tools of modern scholarship, Peter's Last Sermon takes seriously Mark's audience. The community would have heard rather than read the gospel. It would have encountered the story as a whole instead of piecemeal in short texts for sermons. Missing would have been the static of Matthew, Luke, and John. As for the speaker? While most modern scholars table the question of authorship, the post-apostolic writers of the second and third centuries claim with one voice that (though penned by Mark) the gospel actually went back to Peter. So to hear the gospel as did those early Christians was to hear it as if coming from him. Does it make a difference to our understanding of Mark's message if from Peter? Yes. And the result is surprising. Peter's Last Sermon takes us on a journey through Roman and Jewish texts to meet the Jesus not of the modern Church but of Peter's proclamation in Rome. Nero's persecution had left the community in crisis. What was Peter's message for his time? Christ was different from expected, he said, but how? James Dawsey shows that Christ broke the messianic expectations of his Galilean followers and the Jerusalem religious elite of his day. And as the reader of Peter's Last Sermon will see, he surprised Mark's hearers a generation later. The Gospel of Mark still confronts us in new ways

The Gospel of Mark was written about A.D. 57–59 by a Jewish disciple of the Christian faith, the same “John Mark” mentioned at least ten times in the New Testament. John was his Hebrew name, and Mark was his Gentile name.1 All of the early church fathers ascribe this gospel to a young man who was not one of the twelve apostles but was a disciple of Paul and later of Peter. He is often referred to as the interpreter of Peter’s teaching, and Peter apparently gave Mark his stamp of approval for the use of these teachings among the early churches.2
