Follow the Life and Ministry of Christianity's Leading Missionary. The Apostle Paul is one of the most important figures in the early church. He is a main character in the narrative woven through the book of Acts and his thirteen letters make up a significant portion of the New Testament canon. Because Acts and his letters appear as discrete books in Scripture, it can be difficult to piece together a clear narrative for Paul's life and ministry. In Journeys of the Apostle Paul, 20 contributors present a coherent picture of Paul's life, connecting the events in Acts to his letters and theological teaching. With beautifully rendered maps and timelines, this book takes readers through the Acts narratives of Paul's journeys step by step--his interrupted journey to Damascus while persecuting Christians; his three missionary journeys; and his long journey from Jerusalem to Rome. Along the way, you'll discover new insights into his life, his teaching, and his role in the early church.

Paul's adventurous journeys did not end with his 3 missionary journeys and voyage to Rome! After being released from house arrest, Paul went on a "4th journey" and left us "hints" in his writings as to those he would see, this would be his "Farewell Tour." He probably first sailed to Spain, then sailed to the island of Crete and left Titus there (Tit. 1:5). Then sailed to Miletus and walked to Colossae to see the brethren there and to spend time with Philemon, thanking him for his forgiveness of his runaway slave. Then he walked to Ephesus and eventually sailed to Philippi to come full circle in checking on everyone he wrote to while under house arrest. This book completes Paul's Fairwell Tour before he met his fate back in Rome with Nero. The accomplishments of the apostle Paul inspired me to write this book. His achievements were quite remarkable, and more people need to know of his tremendous contribution to the New Testament. This work on Paul's Fourth Missionary Journey is an excellent integration of the letters of Paul's and Luke's presentation of the three journeys and trip to Rome, leading to a lovely, plausible reconstruction of a Fourth missionary journey of Paul. It is well-written and reader-friendly. I plan on using Tom's manuscript in my Acts classes. I've never seen anything like it! Dr. C. "Evidence and Paul's Journeys" is a fascinating historical investigation into the travels of the Apostle Paul. Here is what two noted scholars have written about it:"It is very encouraging to see that the most recent research...has been so carefully gathered together and presented in such a readable form. Jefferson White is to be commended for rendering such a service and his book deserves a wide audience."- Dr. Bruce Winter Warden of Tyndale House, Cambridge University"When I received Evidence and Paul's Journeys in the mail, I planned on skimming it for a minute or two and putting it on the shelf. That was a big mistake. Once I began, I could not put it down. The book encouraged my soul, not only about the historical facticity of the book of Acts, but also in making the events vivid and real. An open minded skeptic would benefit from this book and a convinced believer will enjoy the reality it breathes into the Acts narrative."- J. P. Moreland, Professor of Philosophy, Talbot School of Theology, Biola UniversityThe historical evidence that the book investigates includes:- the city, regional, and provincial political boundaries and titles mentioned in the book of Acts, some of which existed only in the middle of the first century.- the social and political characteristics unique to the cities and provinces that Paul visited.- the archeological findings that bear on the biblical narrative.- the distances that Paul traveled on land and on sea, and how long it took to cover those distances, according to the scriptures and to ancient and modern testimony.- the meteorological and nautical evidence relevant to Paul's travels by sea, including the spectacular confirmation of the details surrounding his shipwreck at Malta.- Paul's arrests and trials, and the legal maneuverings that took place in quite different jurisdictions, studied in the light of evidence about ancient law.- Paul's dealings with noted individuals who are also written about in pagan and Jewish historical accounts.- a comprehensive examination of the complex evidential relation between Paul's letters and the book of Acts. For the first time, all the historical details of Paul's journeys are found in a single book written for the general reader.
