Author Barbara Yuen O'Connor's grandfather left the China mainland in 1877 when he was twenty years old. It was the beginning of an amazing journey that took him to San Francisco just a few years before the Chinese Exclusion Act. He ultimately went to Hawaii to work on the sugar plantations, and it was there that he and his wife raised twelve children. The second generation continued the family's tradition of working hard, putting family first, and traveling. Barbara, a member of the third generation, was a schoolgirl when the Japanese bombed Pearl Harbor on Dec. 7, 1941. The cowardly bombing changed everything. Barbara suddenly had to participate in air raid drills, learn how to use a gas mask, and endure food rationing. In this tribute to three generations, Barbara looks back at growing up during the war, surviving three recessions, and finding the love of her life her late husband of thirty-nine years, Frank. Even though times were not always easy, she and her family always treasured their freedom and heritage.

Dr. Gabriel Proudmore wanted to leave Aberdeen Scotland and journey to the Southwestern States. Chancing upon the schooner Heimdall, on the docks one evening, he’s given an opportunity to embark with her crew on a journey retracing the original route the Rognvald Vikings had taken to Southwestern America. With equal amounts of eagerness and trepidation Gabriel joins and, after many months of challenging adventures they finally reach San Diego. Forced to put the schooner into dry-dock for repairs and modifications, the team decides to holiday in Southern Utah so they can rendezvous with the Professor, a brilliant confidant from Rabat. What he shares at the summit stuns the crew and changes their plans. Now, instead of sailing north to Montague Island, four of the crew will travel to a hidden base in Taroudant Morocco for secret training on state-of-the-art vessels. The others will journey into the Anza Borrego and climb Ghost Mountain to verify what GRACE 2 Satellite Surveillance has recently discovered, an entrance into a vast Underground River system. Tearfully, both groups part company to prepare for the greatest challenge of their collective lives, an extraordinary mission into a numinous subterranean realm in search of century’s old Viking civilizations.

The original American foundation is on the verge of collapse. Each decade forward from the 1960s has allowed another element of moral decay to erode the societys infrastructure. Satan is successfully unraveling the moral fabric of this nation and the church, with his hostilities aimed especially at Christianity. Is there anything we can do to fortify our nation and our church, defending it against these attacks? In Journey: From a Foreign Land to a Promised Paradise, author and minister L. Keith Hale reveals Satans ideals and the veil of deceit sold to the American public as a progressive ideology. Each one of these ideals is moving an ancient stone set by Gods Word, and an in-depth examination of the issues can unveil Satans motivations and actions, giving Christians an understanding of the multifaceted cultural shift happening in America. Yet because the providential hand of God aided in this nations inception, we can look to this godly foundation for a way to once again restore the Christian conscience in America. Every American and every Christian should examine the dream of liberty and the truths on which, in the past, we have stood firm. In so doing, we will heed the divinely inspired wisdom of the Proverbs: Do not move an ancient boundary stone set up by your forefathers (22:28).

Long Hard Journey begins in ancient Greece where science originated 2000 years ago. From the advances made in physics since the days of philosopher/scientists like Pythagoras and Aristotle, key breakthroughs are laid out-these shed a very bright light on the postulates and laws of Einstein"s theory of relativity. The scientific psyche is on display too, with the reader seeing the biting vindictiveness of a Sir Isaac Newton, the despair of the "reluctant revolutionary" Max Planck, and the utter astonishment of men like James Clerk Maxwell and Ernest Rutherford. Physics is thus shown to be high drama instead of the tedious march toward the truth that it is oft perceived to be. Grab this delightful little primer if you've never quite gotten the gist of relativity before. Take it home and partake of the drama.

Young people in East Asia are increasingly experiencing a prolonged transition to adulthood. They are spending longer in school, entering the labour market later, and getting married later still. This protracted young adulthood interacts with forces of both tradition and modernization, as social and economic changes generate profound effects on the transition from school to work, on family formation, on personal relationships, and on subjective well-being. Journey to Adulthood explores the special characteristics of young adulthood in East Asia. It uses Taiwan as illustrative example, with comparative findings from its East Asian neighbours Japan, Korea and Hong Kong. It describes the particular growth context of a millennial generation, and the challenges they face as they attempt to balance family formation, personal development and entry into a market economy. Edited by Chin-Chun Yi and Ming-Chang Tsai, this collection helps us to understand the structural configurations East Asian young adults collectively represent. Taking a cross-cultural and comparative perspective, it enables meaningful policy suggestions on family dynamics, educational strategy, and health and well-being across the globe. Dr Chin-Chun Yi and Dr Ming-Chang Tsai both work within the Institute of Sociology, Research Center for Humanities and Social Sciences, Academia Sinica, Taiwan
