English summary: The essays in this volume deal with three areas: One part focuses on the pre-Islamic history of the Jews, the development of the rabbinate and the relationship between Jews and Christians. This is followed by texts on methodological issues, the historical value of rabbinic texts and the legacy of the apocalyptic. Ten of the essays deal with Tractate Avot, its origins and its reception, four of them with the redaction history of Sifra to Leviticus. The outline of the Midrash Wayosha segues into thematic studies of rabbinic literature. The work concludes with essays on the research history (J.J. Rabe, L. Zunz and H.L.Strack). All the essays have been given a standard form and any overlapping has been deleted if this was deemed expedient. Essays that were published in Spanish or Italian have been translated and everything has been updated to a certain extent. The Jewish Origins Of Cultural Pluralism written by Daniel Greene and has been published by Indiana University Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2011-04-15 with Education categories.

Daniel Greene traces the emergence of the idea of cultural pluralism to the lived experiences of a group of Jewish college students and public intellectuals, including the philosopher Horace M. Kallen. These young Jews faced particular challenges as they sought to integrate themselves into the American academy and literary world of the early 20th century. At Harvard University, they founded an influential student organization known as the Menorah Association in 1906 and later the Menorah Journal, which became a leading voice of Jewish public opinion in the 1920s. In response to the idea that the American melting pot would erase all cultural differences, the Menorah Association advocated a pluralist America that would accommodate a thriving Jewish culture while bringing Jewishness into mainstream American life.

The menorah was the most important and dominant symbol in Jewish art, both in the Land of Israel and the Diaspora. The menorah was an integral part of the Temple ritual and was the most important of the Temple vessels. Its later representation served the purpose of reminding the Jews of their previous glory as well as their pride in the Temple, and expressed the longing and hope for the renewal of the Temple services and worship. Following the destruction of the Temple, the menorah took on the profound significance of the Temple. It also came to symbolize Judaism, when it was necessary to distinguish synagogues, Jewish tombs, and catacombs from Christian or pagan structures in the Land of Israel and the Diaspora . The menorah image has been found depicted in synagogues, public buildings, homes, and the funerary context throughout the Land of Israel and the Diaspora, leaving no doubt as to which are Jewish structures. The prominent position of the menorah in Jewish art emphasizes its significance. The book is presenting the art, archaeological, historical and literary evidence for the development, form, meaning, and significance of the menorah during the Second Temple period and the Late Antiquity.
