Judgment aggregation is a mathematical theory of collective decision-making. It concerns the methods whereby individual opinions about logically interconnected issues of interest can, or cannot, be aggregated into one collective stance. Aggregation problems have traditionally been of interest for disciplines like economics and the political sciences, as well as philosophy, where judgment aggregation itself originates from, but have recently captured the attention of disciplines like computer science, artificial intelligence and multi-agent systems. Judgment aggregation has emerged in the last decade as a unifying paradigm for the formalization and understanding of aggregation problems. Still, no comprehensive presentation of the theory is available to date. This Synthesis Lecture aims at filling this gap presenting the key motivations, results, abstractions and techniques underpinning it. Judgment aggregation theory generalizes social choice theory by having the aggregation rule bear on judgments of all kinds instead of barely judgments of preference. The paper briefly sums it up, privileging the variant that formalizes judgment by a logical syntax. The theory derives from Kornhauser and Sager's doctrinal paradox and Pettit's discursive dilemma, which List and Pettit turned into an impossibility theorem - the first of a long list to come. After mentioning this stage, the paper restates three theorems that are representative of the current work, by Nehring and Puppe, Dokow and Holzman, and Dietrich and Mongin, respectively, and it concludes by explaining how Dietrich and List have recovered Arrow's theorem as a particular application of the theory.

This collection of essays represents responses by over eighty scholars to an unusual request: give your high level assessment of the field of economic design, as broadly construed. Where do we come from? Where do we go from here? The book editors invited short, informal reflections expressing deeply felt but hard to demonstrate opinions, unsupported speculation, and controversial views of a kind one might not normally risk submitting for review. The contributors – both senior researchers who have shaped the field and promising, younger researchers – responded with a diverse collection of provocative pieces, including: retrospective assessments or surveys of the field; opinion papers; reflections on critical points for the development of the discipline; proposals for the immediate future; "science fiction"; and many more. The readers should have fun reading these unusual pieces – as much as the contributors enjoyed writing them.

Computer Supported Collaborative Decision Making written by Florin Gheorghe Filip and has been published by Springer this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2016-10-27 with Technology & Engineering categories.
This is a book about how management and control decisions are made by persons who collaborate and possibly use the support of an information system. The decision is the result of human conscious activities aiming at choosing a course of action for attaining a certain objective (or a set of objectives). The act of collaboration implies that several entities who work together and share responsibilities to jointly plan, implement and evaluate a program of activities to achieve the common goals. The book is intended to present a balanced view of the domain to include both well-established concepts and a selection of new results in the domains of methods and key technologies. It is meant to answer several questions, such as: a) “How are evolving the business models towards the ever more collaborative schemes?”; b) “What is the role of the decision-maker in the new context?” c) “What are the basic attributes and trends in the domain of decision-supporting information systems?”; d) “Which are the basic methods to aggregate the individual preferences?” e)“What is the impact of modern information and communication technologies on the design and usage of decision support systems for groups of people?”.

This book collects the papers presented at the 4th International Workshop on Logic, Rationality and Interaction/ (LORI-4), held in October 2013 at the /Center for the Study of Language and Cognition, Zhejiang University, Hangzhou, China. LORI is a series that brings together researchers from a variety of logic-related fields: Game and Decision Theory, Philosophy, Linguistics, Computer Science and AI. This year had a special emphasis on Norms and Argumentation. Out of 42 submissions, 23 full papers and 11 short contributions have been selected through peer-review for inclusion in the workshop program and in this volume. The quality and diversity of these contributions witnesses a lively, fast-growing, and interdisciplinary community working at the intersection of logic and rational interaction.

The field of Artificial Intelligence is one in which novel ideas and new and original perspectives are of more than usual importance. The Starting AI Researchers' Symposium (STAIRS) is an international meeting which supports AI researchers from all countries at the beginning of their career, PhD students and those who have held a PhD for less than one year. It offers doctoral students and young post-doctoral AI fellows a unique and valuable opportunity to gain experience in presenting their work in a supportive scientific environment, where they can obtain constructive feedback on the technical content of their work, as well as advice on how to present it, and where they can also establish contacts with the broader European AI research community. This book presents revised versions of peer-reviewed papers presented at the Sixth STAIRS, which took place in Montpellier, France, in conjunction with the 20th European Conference on Artificial Intelligence (ECAI) and the Seventh Conference on Prestigious Applications of Intelligent Systems (PAIS) in August 2012.The topics covered in the book range over a broad spectrum of subjects in the field of AI: machine learning and data mining, constraint satisfaction problems and belief propagation, logic and reasoning, dialogue and multiagent systems, and games and planning. Offering a fascinating opportunity to glimpse the current work of the AI researchers of the future, this book will be of interest to anyone whose work involves the use of artificial intelligence and intelligent systems.

The biannual conferences bring together researchers from a wide variety of fields sharing a common interest in reasoning about rationality and knowledge. the impact of this tradition, going back to 1986, is apparent in many of today's research trends and in the growth of an intellectual community beyond traditional disciplinary boundaries. this volume documents the eleventh conference, held in Brussels, Belgium, in June 2007. it includes contributed papers, 3 invited talks. Like earlier volumes in this series, it gives a window of the state of the art in studies of knowledge and information flow in areas such as probability, linguistic semantics, logics for communication, belief revision, game theory, and interactions between these. should be of value for researchers, teachers, and students alike.
