Joe just wants to be left alone. He is happy with his ordinary life in the small village of Cardenfield, having his dinner with his Aunt and Uncle in front of the X Factor, and playing on his X-Box. But Joe doesn't know the truth about his life. He doesn't know that his father is a King in the magical world of Antigol. He doesn't know that a war rages there, and the dark Prince Avarat has sworn to find the boy who robbed him of his destiny. As Christmas approaches, the snow blanketed streets of Cardenfield shake with the arrival of towering, monstrous bone wytches, striding over houses and peeling back roofs. The skies split as fire belching emerald dragons soar from the clouds, searching... for Joe. With his best friend, and serial-suspendee from the local school, Reece, and the sour-faced polish girl, Kinga, Joe escapes into Antigol, where he realises things will never be the same again. ------------------------------------------- Why does the Dark Prince seek Joe ? Who is the mysterious wizard Maven ? But most importantly, whose voice whispers inside Joe's head, and what is the strange searing pain which burns through his chest whenever he is in danger ? Perhaps it has something to do with the peculiar little birthmark on the back of his hand, known to everyone he meets in Antigol as "The Mark of Four"

I have toyed and struggled with the thought of compiling this book for a long time; almost 35 years, in fact. Since graduating from West Point in 1974, I have visited over forty countries in my military and business career. Everywhere Ive been I have looked for articles or stories that I could include in this book. Many short stories came from friends and sources marked -Unknown. This book is dedicated to young people everywhere and written for their benefit. I realize that many young people today would rather buy a CD or DVD rather than a guidebook or an owners manual- a book about how to improve their lives from just an average Joe. Some young people will only get this book if a parent, grandparent, aunt, uncle or probation officer gives it to them as a gift. I hope it is a gift worth keeping and sharing. Today, young people struggle with finding good examples of role models. My first role model was David Cortez while attending Rhodes Junior High School in San Antonio, Texas. David was a ninth grader and our Student Council President. He helped me with my successful political campaign to be the next Student Council Secretary. I thought David walked on water. David came from a strong family. He was smart, athletic, and good-looking. He had a beautiful girlfriend. Davids story has a sad ending. He went on to Jefferson High, where he also excelled. He married his girlfriend- the girl of his dreams. A few years later, she tragically died in a car accident. Not much later in life, David, still a widower, died of a mysterious illness, leaving behind two young daughters. Parents should be their own kids role models, but sometimes we, too, fall short of setting the good example for our kids. Parents lose credibility and respect because, from their kids perspective, it seems like we were never young and rebellious. HELLO!!! We were. It is hard to believe, but we were and it was tough back then, too. It may actually be harder now in many ways- more distractions, more toys, more peer pressure, more drugs, more gang violence, more graffiti, more sexual promiscuity, more TV, more video games and cyberspace but less family interaction and influence. Teachers, who genuinely care about their students future success, are also rare. Teachers can be excellent role models and I applaud anyone who goes into this most honorable profession. In the business world, prudence is ignored and now takes a backseat to personal gain at any cost, recklessness, corruption and greed in some of our largest banks and corporations. In politics, the candidates tell the electorate whats popular rhetoric: who can be against better healthcare for all, better education for our children, and a strong defense. Once elected or defeated they find it difficult to work with the opposition for the benefit of our communities and nation. Todays politicians are no longer statesmen but socialists bent on ridiculous spending programs and bailouts of mismanaged banks, companies and corrupt governments around the world at an exorbitant cost to American taxpayers. Having said all this, I am still optimistic about our country and about many of our youth and their positive impact on our society and our world. I wish I could say that I am optimistic about all of them, but unfortunately, it will be just a few of them that will make a difference. But these few will be the leaders of tomorrow, the peacemakers, the inventors, the farmers, the space explorers, the scientists, the teachers and the caregivers that will make all the difference in our world. Their answers to our worlds problems and challenges will come from within- from a strong sense of leadership, character and responsibility, self-discipline; and respect for self, the unborn, the elderly, religious freedoms, strong families, authority and the environment. This book attempts to inspire & motivate more of to

“Polly Winslow is the last woman on earth I’d ever consider getting involved with.” Ellie Winslow thinks her new fifth-grade teacher, Mr. Matthews, will be the perfect husband for her Aunt Polly. He’s tall and good-looking and he has blue eyes, just like every hero in the romance books her aunt writes. A con-artist in the making, Ellie tells a little white lie to get Mr. Matthews to her aunt’s doorstep. Mr. Matthews and Aunt Polly just have to look in each other’s eyes and all will be happily ever after. Right? Not quite. From his early years, Joe Matthews has striven for perfection in all facets of his life. Polly Winslow is the complete opposite of the ideal mate he’s envisioned for himself. Pretty and charming she may be, but she’s way too free-spirited—a chaotic, whimsical whirlwind that reminds him too much of everything he’s been running away from since he was a boy. “I don’t care if he’s the last single guy on the planet. I’m not interested. Period.” Joe may have the most gorgeous blue eyes that Polly's ever seen, but he’s no match for the larger-than-life fictional heroes that stand front and center in both her daydreams and the romance novels she writes. In her opinion, he’s just an average, ordinary guy, and he’s way too neat and fastidious. Besides—no matter how much her fingers itch to remove his tie and muss up his hair—she’s keeping all thoughts of real-life romance on the back burner until her goal of becoming a published writer is realized. Maybe it’s time for two stubborn people to let go of long-held ideals and perceptions and open their minds and hearts to the extraordinary love that is waiting on the doorstep. This is Book # 2 in the King's Valley Series, but it can be read and enjoyed as a stand-alone. Each book in the series has an HEA with no cliff-hangers. What readers have said about Her Ordinary Joe: -"Very good writing! I enjoyed Polly and Joe’s easy camaraderie and how they learned to look beyond first impressions." -"This is a sweet clean romance with lots of laughter. Ellie is a precocious girl who has big plans for her beloved aunt Polly. Look out Joe! The characters are quite opposite and struggle with their wide differences. I liked that this romance didn't rely on jealousy or cheating to increase the drama. For the most part these are ordinary people living ordinary lives." -"Well written with interesting characters and cleverly related subplot. Part of a series but complete and satisfying in itself. Fun reading." -"Who would have thought that a romance novel about a romance writer writing a romance novel would be so interesting. The characters are well written and unique. They try so hard to stick to their ideals of their "perfect" love as these opposites attract." King's Valley Romance Series (in order). All books are stand-alones, but the author recommends you read the first 3 books to fully enjoy and appreciate the last book in the series. # 1 Ethan's Bride # 2 Her Ordinary Joe # 3 The Return of Devin Wakefield # 4 Annie and Jake
