The Lost Art Of Drawing The Line written by Philip K. Howard and has been published by Random House this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2001-06-12 with Social Science categories.

The Lost Art of Drawing the Line will appall and irritate — and entertain — readers every bit as much as Philip Howard’s first book. Why is it that no one can fix the schools? Why do ordinary judgements fill doctors with fear? Why are seesaws disappearing from playgrounds? Why has a wave of selfish people overtaken America? In our effort to protect the individual against unfair decisions, we have created a society where no one’s in charge of anything. Silly lawsuits strike fear in our hearts because judges don’t think they have the authority to dismiss them. Inner-city schools are filthy and mired in a cycle of incompetence because no one has the authority to decide who’s doing the job and who’s not. When no one’s in charge, we all lose our link to the common good. When principals lack authority over schools, of what use are the parents’ views? When no one can judge right and wrong, why not be as selfish as you can be? Philip Howard traces our well-meaning effort to protect individuals through the twentieth century, with the unintended result that we have lost much of our individual freedom. Buttressed with scores of stories that make you want to collar the next self-centered jerk or hapless bureaucrat, The Lost Art of Drawing the Line demonstrates once again that Philip Howard is “trying to drive us all sane.”

The Subtle Art Of Not Giving A F Ck written by Mark Manson and has been published by HarperCollins this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2016-09-13 with Self-Help categories.

#1 New York Times Bestseller Over 10 million copies sold In this generation-defining self-help guide, a superstar blogger cuts through the crap to show us how to stop trying to be "positive" all the time so that we can truly become better, happier people. For decades, we’ve been told that positive thinking is the key to a happy, rich life. "F**k positivity," Mark Manson says. "Let’s be honest, shit is f**ked and we have to live with it." In his wildly popular Internet blog, Manson doesn’t sugarcoat or equivocate. He tells it like it is—a dose of raw, refreshing, honest truth that is sorely lacking today. The Subtle Art of Not Giving a F**k is his antidote to the coddling, let’s-all-feel-good mindset that has infected American society and spoiled a generation, rewarding them with gold medals just for showing up. Manson makes the argument, backed both by academic research and well-timed poop jokes, that improving our lives hinges not on our ability to turn lemons into lemonade, but on learning to stomach lemons better. Human beings are flawed and limited—"not everybody can be extraordinary, there are winners and losers in society, and some of it is not fair or your fault." Manson advises us to get to know our limitations and accept them. Once we embrace our fears, faults, and uncertainties, once we stop running and avoiding and start confronting painful truths, we can begin to find the courage, perseverance, honesty, responsibility, curiosity, and forgiveness we seek. There are only so many things we can give a f**k about so we need to figure out which ones really matter, Manson makes clear. While money is nice, caring about what you do with your life is better, because true wealth is about experience. A much-needed grab-you-by-the-shoulders-and-look-you-in-the-eye moment of real-talk, filled with entertaining stories and profane, ruthless humor, The Subtle Art of Not Giving a F**k is a refreshing slap for a generation to help them lead contented, grounded lives.

A teenage girl’s guide to being a confident, classy lady of substance in a substance-less world. In a world where women and girls are constantly under attack from the media with photoshopped, airbrushed images and popstars that tell them all they need to do is party all the time, kiss a lot of boys, be a “mean girl” to gain popularity, max their credit cards to buy designer clothes, etc., The Lost Art of Ladyhood communicates the counterpoint to those of our teen popstars. Happiness does not come from revealing all your skin, going clubbing every weekend where you get so drunk you don’t remember who you kissed, or maxing your credit cards just so you can buy the latest designer jeans. Happiness comes from living a life of character. Teaching girls how to be ladylike has little to do with crossing your ankles and sipping tea correctly; it’s about giving them tools and skills they can use to serve others, to be grateful, to think positively, to set powerful goals, to protect themselves from toxic relationships, and to learn to love themselves enough to where they learn to love others. The Lost Art of Ladyhood is a road map for navigate your way to confidence, classy-ness, character, and learning the lost art of being a lady. The Lost Art Of Banking written by Aisling Tuite and has been published by Springer this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2019-02-27 with Business & Economics categories.

This Palgrave Pivot explores the recent financial crisis from a new perspective. Reflecting on 40 years of banking experiences, the book will open new avenues to understanding banking and comment on possible ways to rehabilitate banking organisations. In 1965 the Bank of Ireland received a consultancy report from McKinsey & Company, which heralded a new phase in banking practice and organisation. In the years that followed, the Bank of Ireland opened up its once traditional culture to outside influences changing the way work was done and workers were viewed. Direct competition was introduced alongside specialisation of roles, and hence college education was identified as the way to meet demands of the market and bankers began to develop a full suite of products to keep customers loyal. The once professional bank manager who was a guardian of good practice eventually became absorbed into the needs of the leviathan organisation. The end result is an unimaginable and interlinked financial crisis in 2008 that swept across Ireland and the globe. This book explores banking organisation and practice as it transforms and across the period from 1960 to 2018. It argues that organisational goals over individual responsibility paved the pathway towards crisis. Organisationally, anxiety and fear of failure took the place of certainty and stability. While the financial crisis is coming to an end, banking organisations remains fragile and prone to influences that may lead them towards a path of continuous cycles of boom and bust. Such a state has the potential to create an unending cycle of boom and bust and the end of stability and the institution of banking. This book shines a light on that and will be of interest to banking and finance researchers, students, and practitioners.
