Brand Jamaica written by Hume Johnson and has been published by U of Nebraska Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2019-12-01 with Social Science categories.

Brand Jamaica is an empirical look at the postindependence national image and branding project of Jamaica within the context of nation-branding practices at large. Although a tiny Caribbean island inhabited by only 2.8 million people, Jamaica commands a remarkably large presence on the world stage. Formerly a colony of Britain and shaped by centuries of slavery, violence, and plunder, today Jamaica owes its popular global standing to a massively successful troika of brands: music, sports, and destination tourism. At the same time, extensive media attention focused on its internal political civil war, mushrooming violent crime, inflation, unemployment, poverty, and abuse of human rights have led to perceptions of the country as unsafe. Brand Jamaica explores the current practices of branding Jamaica, particularly within the context of postcoloniality, reconciles the lived realities of Jamaicans with the contemporary image of Jamaica projected to the world, and deconstructs the current tourism model of sun, sand, and sea. Hume Johnson and Kamille Gentles-Peart bring together multidisciplinary perspectives that interrogate various aspects of Jamaican national identity and the dominant paradigm by which it has been shaped.

As biblical hermeneutics moves increasingly toward the inclusion of vernacular approaches to the text—understandings of the Bible based on culture, context, and human experience—many communities of faith around the world are contributing their voices to the conversation of global Christianity. This volume explores reading methods and text interpretations of believers in South Africa, the Caribbean, Spain, the Netherlands, the United States, India, Kenya, Fiji, Japan, the United Kingdom, New Zealand, and Nigeria—revealing the ways various faith communities read the Bible contextually. Essays in this volume also illustrate the impact of the biblical text in people’s lives—on their understandings of oppression, identity, the plight of refugees, decline and loss, the relationship between church and society, imperialism, homelessness, restorative justice, bodily experiences of the Holy Spirit, and time and the future. Together, these writings provide an in-depth sense of how global Christians read the Bible through the lens of their own tradition or culture, as well as how the Bible informs all aspects of their lives as they read the world biblically.

The New Societies provides an intriguing perspective on the transformative steps exemplified with the 1981 meeting for the signing of the Treaty of Basseterre which has since produced a foundation for continual manifestations for the benefits of the countries of the Eastern Caribbean, where serving as members of the Organisation of Eastern Caribbean States, of which proposes greater prospects for societal growth of good governance & highly-yielding public responsiveness. The reader is presented content on a potential emergence of structural ingenuity culminating in the accentuation of effective notions on multi-nationalism in law, policy-making, & political representation, as may be necessitated by the natural inclination to maximize sound governmental approaches. Within a larger message, the content details the prospect of the achievements of a plan for the Americas, where the nations of the Pan-American construct of the Organization of American States may shine upon the world a governance system which is in perfect unity with the greatest ideals as has been demonstrated by the coalescing & foundational principles for the illumination of quasi-legislative grants for human security in the many aspects of developmental formalities, congruent understandings of jurisprudence & justice, and peace-seeking & keeping in all areas of societal activity.
