The World According To Colour written by James Fox and has been published by Penguin UK this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2021-10-07 with Art categories.

'Extraordinary. An intellectual feast as well as a visual one' Edmund de Waal, author of The Hare with Amber Eyes The world comes to us in colour. But colour lives as much in our imaginations as it does in our surroundings, as this scintillating book reveals. Each chapter immerses the reader in a single colour, drawing together stories from the histories of art and humanity to illuminate the meanings it has been given over the eras and around the globe. Showing how artists, scientists, writers, philosophers, explorers and inventors have both shaped and been shaped by these wonderfully myriad meanings, James Fox reveals how, through colour, we can better understand their cultures, as well as our own. Each colour offers a fresh perspective on a different epoch, and together they form a vivid, exhilarating history of the world. 'We have projected our hopes, anxieties and obsessions onto colour for thousands of years,' Fox writes. 'The history of colour, therefore, is also a history of humanity.'

Kai Althoff (b. 1966, Germany) is one of the most consummate - and unpredictable - artists of his generation. A painter and a draftsman, he has experimented since the mid-1990s with combinations of unconventional mediums and exhibition formats to create all-encompassing environments that might include finely detailed drawings; collage; woven textiles, knitted fabric; soft sculpture; paintings; writing; video; fragrance; and song. Published in conjunction with a major exhibition at The Museum of Modern Art, this publication presents Althoff's work in all mediums created over a 25-year career, and is the most comprehensive publication on the artist to date. Created in close collaboration with the artist in the model of old master catalogues from the period after the Second World War, the book features lavish colour reproductions of Althoff's most significant works. Contributions by art historians, curators, a critic, a rabbi, a professor of psychology and a close friend of the artist offer multiple perspectives on Althoff's iconographically rich work.

Jutta Koether's translucent color fields, expressive brushstrokes and female subjects--as well as her use of poetry, art history and Mylar--can make her seem like a feminist answer to the Cologne art scene, a counterpart to artists like Martin Kippenberger, Sigmar Polke and Albert Oehlen. In fact, she is a central contemporary painter in her own right, as well as a performance artist, a musician and a critic. She collaborates musically with Sonic Youth's Kim Gordon and Television's Tom Verlaine, contributes regularly to Artforum and the respected German culture magazine Spex, and teaches in Bard College's MFA program--and has recently shown her work at Reema Spaulings Fine Art and Thomas Erben Gallery in New York. Koether's work, which the New York Times has called "vibrant" and "intriguing," was a standout in the 2006 Whitney Biennial. This look back documents the artist's oeuvre from the mid-80s forward, with an extensive selection of images.

David Maljkovic Also On View written by David Maljkovic and has been published by this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2019 with categories.

Throughout an ever-shifting body of work, David Maljkovi? returns to ?the question of form,? asking how considerations of form itself might illuminate the ebb and flow of ideologies, for example, or the overlaying of past, present, and future. While embracing a wide range of media?including photography, painting, video, sculpture, and various hybrids?the Croatian artist has developed distinctive methods of incorporating, and refiguring, his own earlier works in new installations.0Along with every exhibition, Maljkovicc translates his work into the form of a book, which becomes another lively medium for the artist. For 'Also on View', he collaborated with designer Toni Uroda to channel the queries of his solo exhibition at the Renaissance Society, which brought together elements from different projects to create a new presentation tailored to the architectural space. The publication features a dynamic array of images, a rendition of the artist talk Maljkovic? delivered on opening night, and an essay by curator Karsten Lund.00Exhibition: The Renaissance Society, Chicago, USA (09.02-07.04.2019).

Artists Magazines written by Gwen Allen and has been published by MIT Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2015-08-21 with Art categories.

How artists' magazines, in all their ephemerality, materiality, and temporary intensity, challenged mainstream art criticism and the gallery system. During the 1960s and 1970s, magazines became an important new site of artistic practice, functioning as an alternative exhibition space for the dematerialized practices of conceptual art. Artists created works expressly for these mass-produced, hand-editioned pages, using the ephemerality and the materiality of the magazine to challenge the conventions of both artistic medium and gallery. In Artists' Magazines, Gwen Allen looks at the most important of these magazines in their heyday (the 1960s to the 1980s) and compiles a comprehensive, illustrated directory of hundreds of others. Among the magazines Allen examines are Aspen (1965–1971), a multimedia magazine in a box—issues included Super-8 films, flexi-disc records, critical writings, artists' postage stamps, and collectible chapbooks; Avalanche (1970-1976), which expressed the countercultural character of the emerging SoHo art community through its interviews and artist-designed contributions; and Real Life (1979-1994), published by Thomas Lawson and Susan Morgan as a forum for the Pictures generation. These and the other magazines Allen examines expressed their differences from mainstream media in both form and content: they cast their homemade, do-it-yourself quality against the slickness of an Artforum, and they created work that defied the formalist orthodoxy of the day. Artists' Magazines, featuring abundant color illustrations of magazine covers and content, offers an essential guide to a little-explored medium.

Seth Price written by Seth Price and has been published by this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2017 with Multimedia (Art) categories.

This catalogue is the first comprehensive publication on Price's varied oeuvre. It offers an unflinching portrait of contemporary, mediated Western life. The exhibition at Stedelijk Museum is the first survey of the American artist's work.A key theme in Price's work is the self under technological pressure. This is often expressed in terms of the 'skins' of surface, packaging, and wrapping: a photographic study of a person's skin obtained through the technologies Google employs for mapping; a vacuum-formed plastic relief presenting a body part stranded in plastic; a large wall sculpture depicting the negative space between two people engaged in intimate action, greatly enlarged from a tiny internet jpeg.'Seth Price is a key figure in addressing technology and artistic authorship. His work traces an important art historical shift from the concept of collage, where chance played a major role and the image was constructed of multiple layers, to the concept of a unified image, which envelops us in an endless, undifferentiated, digital stream.' - Beatrix Ruf, Director of Stedelijk MuseumPublished on the occasion of the exhibition Seth Price: Social Synthetic, at Stedelijk Museum, Amsterdam (15 April - 3 September 2017), and at Museum Brandhorst, Munich (12 October 2017 - 18 March 2018).
