Nel corpo, la sorta di “hardware” che proietta l’apertura immateriale che noi chiamiamo “mente” non esistono parole. L’organismo è materiale fino alla sua più estrema subatomica essenza. L’animale che parla appartiene ad un ambiente, vive in un ecosistema, ma immette nella natura un gesto iperbolico: il tentativo impossibile di essere qualcosa e di saperlo, figurando nella contingenza lo spazio ed il tempo necessari per il generarsi dei vocaboli e di un registro astratto dell’esistere. Un elemento vitale mediante il quale l’astrazione origina per sé una nicchia nella materia cosmica è la narrazione. Una parola è già una storia. Le sillabe parlano alla mente dalla mente. Lo sguardo astratto traversa la materia e la distorce con l’immagine e il racconto.

Il volume approfondisce, da un alto, il dialogo che Nicolò Cusano (1401-1464) ha intrattenuto con alcuni maestri della tradizione filosofica (come Platone, Aristotele, Proclo, Dionigi Areopagita, Giovanni Scoto, Eckhart) e, dall’altro, le riflessioni che alcuni pensatori contemporanei (in particolare Pareyson e Beierwaltes) hanno sviluppato nelle loro letture della sua opera. Intrecciando queste due dimensioni, il lavoro intende evidenziare le profondità teoretiche della speculazione cusaniana, sviluppando sia la felice intuizione di Luigi Pareyson, secondo cui il filosofo tedesco sarebbe tra quei pensatori che hanno elaborato una concezione dell’Uno come libertà, sia la tesi di Werner Beierwaltes, relativa all’eccedenza dell’henologia cusaniana rispetto a quella tradizione di pensiero che Heidegger ha denominato criticamente “onto-teologia”.

Il volume indaga il problema della fondazione dell’etica. In un primo momento si dedica all’analisi e alla critica di tre sistemi etici “laici” che hanno avuto un peso decisivo e dominante nel pensiero morale occidentale: la filosofia pratica di Kant, l’utilitarismo nelle formulazioni di alcuni suoi autori classici (Bentham e Mill) e contemporanei (Hare e Harsanyi), e infine l’“etica delle virtù” di Aristotele. Questo confronto viene condotto non solo per avere una precisa illustrazione dell’area di indagine, ma anche con lo scopo di far propri i risultati più convincenti di ognuna delle riflessioni in esame e di aprire uno spazio teoretico in cui si possano coniugare e rinforzare l’un l’altro. Tale spazio viene cercato muovendo da un ripensamento della logica e della natura dell’etica, a partire dal quale viene avanzata la proposta di postura esistenziale chiamata “dynergismo”. Essa, radicandosi in un orizzonte di pensiero spinoziano, tenta di risolvere le difficoltà e di sintetizzare le virtù dei sistemi analizzati in precedenza.

Un corpo a corpo degno dell’autore con cui viene ingaggiato; un corpo a corpo con il pensiero di Emanuele Severino sicuramente all’altezza del rigore speculativo di quella che è senz’altro, anche per Marco, una delle massime espressioni del pensiero contemporaneo. Marco Rienzi, comunque, interroga Severino, ma attraverso questo esercizio ermeneutico-teoretico, fa anche i conti con alcune delle grandi questioni che ossessionano la filosofia sin dalle sue prime testimonianze, e in particolare con uno degli autori con cui lo stesso pensiero di Severino è in costante dialogo: Hegel. Ma quel che più conta è che il giovane studioso, dottorando dell’Università San Raffaele, riesce in queste pagine a far toccare con mano, al lettore, cosa significhi ‘filosofare’, senza perdersi in superflue valutazioni di questo o quel contenuto del pensiero severiniano, ma ripercorrendone con piglio da studioso di grande raffinatezza gli snodi essenziali, con una consapevolezza ‘critica’ che gli consente di non farsi mai fagocitare (come sarebbe peraltro potuto facilmente accadere) dalla fascinazione connessa ad ogni grande testimonianza filosofica.

La questione del cominciamento è probabilmente il tema più dibattuto della filosofia hegeliana. Al di là degli studi di carattere storiografico, l’interpretazione della prima triade dialettica – Essere, Nulla, Divenire – ha costituito il fondamento più o meno esplicito di varie e complesse teorie filosofiche. Tuttavia, il problema dell'inizio appare illuminato in modo inedito muovendo dai concetti di essenza e riflessione, dedotti nel secondo libro della Scienza della Logica, la Dottrina dell’essenza. Qui si comprende come il cominciamento non appaia come il prodotto di un gesto arbitrario, ma in quanto risultato di una necessità intrinseca al dispiegamento dell’Idea. L’essere, che inizialmente “appare” come mero presupposto, si rivela in verità solo alla luce del movimento riflessivo, che lo pone come «ritorno in se stesso». L’inizio si comprende così come un’operazione interna alla riflessione che, sospendendo se stessa, toglie il proprio porre. Nella sua articolazione concettuale, la riflessione rappresenta una sorta di “logica della logica” e il luogo privilegiato per comprendere l’essenza della dialettica.
