Pertanian organik merupakan salah satu cara bertani, disamping bertujuan untuk menghasilkan produk yang tinggi dan berkualitas, juga untuk konservasi dan pemberdayaan sumber daya alam tanah yang subur, air yang tidak bercampur dengan polutan kimiawi dan keaneka ragaman hayati yang tinggi. Suatu sistem produksi pertanian yang berazaskan daur ulang secara hayati. Menurut penelitian, lebih dari 70 % lahan sawah di Indonesia berada dalam kondisi yang tidak sehat. Kunci utama dalam penyehatan lahan adalah penambahan bahan organik baik kompos atau pupuk kandang sehingga kandungan bahan organik tanah berada pada kisaran antara 3-5%. Untuk itu perlu perlu dilakukan berbagai upaya penyehatan tanah dalam satu gerak langkah nyata yang terpadu terarah dan saling menunjang satu sama lain agar media tanah kita sehat dan mampu memproduksi makanan yang sehat dan berkualitas untuk pemenuhan kebutuhan bahan pangan baik dalam negeri maupun mengisi kelangkaan pangan global. Buku kapita selekta pertanian organik dan pertanian ramah lingkungan ini terbit, agar bisa menjadi sumber inspirasi untuk menyatukan langkah dalam bertani sehat secara masif di Indonesia.
