Il terzo romanzo di Romina Power è costruito con un'alternanza di flash back visti dalla prospettiva dell'età matura della sua protagonista. Daria oggi ha sessant'anni e guarda indietro con lucidità e ironia, senza mai essere sopraffatta dalla nostalgia; ma guarda anche avanti fino al finale sorprendente, come sa fare solo una donna appagata e serena. In chi legge nasce allora il sospetto che la serenità di Daria sia anche un po' quella dell'autrice.
