Population Dynamics Of A Philippine Rain Forest People written by John D. Early and has been published by this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 1998 with Social Science categories.

"An important and significant contribution to anthropology."--Barry S. Hewlett, Washington State University The Agta Negrito people have been hunters and gatherers in the tropical rain forests of the Philippines for centuries. This book investigates a small group of the Agta living on Luzon Island during their transition from a foraging society to a landless group of agricultural workers. The core of the book is a demographic study of fertility, mortality, and migration over a 44-year period. It is one of only two studies that have completely reconstructed the population dynamics of a foraging group without relying on mathematical models. Ethnographic and narrative historical sections of the book establish the contexts for the demographic data and enhance the study's readability. As a case history of social and population dynamics in a remote frontier region, the work describes the impact of international commercial interests on both the rain forest and the landless peasantry seeking to survive. The work is of exceptional value because of the difficulties of obtaining reliable demographic data from a foraging group, and for the long-term coverage of the quantitative database. John D. Early, retired professor of anthropology at Florida Atlantic University, Boca Raton, is the author of several books, most recently (with John F. Peters) The Population Dynamics of the Mucajai Yanomama. Thomas N. Headland, adjunct professor of linguistics at the University of Texas at Arlington and anthropology consultant for the Summer Institute of Linguistics, is the coeditor of Tropical Deforestation: The Human Dimension and of Emics and Etics: The Insider/Outsider Debate.

Five Hundred Years Without Love written by Alex Lacson and has been published by Europa Edizioni this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2021-04-30 with Fiction categories.

This is about a man, his lost love, the imperfect world he lives in, and how he finds his true love after he discovers his true self and life’s purpose when he realized that much of the world’s imperfections are caused by lack of love for others, fueled by greed and selfishness, which cause social cancer. Anton Hinirang was unhappy for the last twenty-four years, after losing his first and only love, when Marian’s parents forced her to marry someone with money and stature. Decades later, not even success could make Anton happy. When his unhappiness was complicated by tragic events that happened to his father and two siblings, caused by his country’s social ills, it woke and changed Anton forever. It led to his self-discovery of his life’s purpose, which in turn led him to find his true love. In its core, the story is about love, how its absence can render a person’s life unhappy and miserable, and how lack of love in people’s hearts, especially among leaders, can cause poverty and misery among many in society and the world. Alex Lacson is a bestselling author in the Philippines. He is known as a builder of hope in his country, especially among the youth. Alex believes that love is the answer to most of the problems confronting humanity today; love as expressed in kindness, compassion, generosity, fairness and justice. Though a lawyer by profession, Alex’s first passion is writing. He served as a newspaper columnist for seven years. He also worked as editor-in-chief of a lawyers’ magazine for a few years before he wrote in 2005 his first book, which became an instant national bestseller in the Philippines. Alex is a graduate of the College of Law, University of the Philippines. In 2002, he took a short summer program at Harvard Law School, Harvard University, Cambridge, Massachusetts, US. He also took a leadership training at Haggai Institute, Singapore in 2007.

Power And Intimacy In The Christian Philippines written by Fenella Cannell and has been published by Cambridge University Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 1999-03-18 with Social Science categories.

What kind of reciprocity exists between unequal partners? How can a 'culture' which makes no attempt to defend unchanging traditions be understood as such? In the Christian Philippines, inequalities - global and local - are negotiated through idioms of persuasion, reluctance and pity. Fenella Cannell's study suggests that these are the idioms of a culture which does not need to represent itself as immutable. Her account of Philippine spirit-mediumship, Catholicism, transvestite beauty contests, and marriage in Bicol calls for a reassessment of our understanding of South-East Asian modernity. Combining a strong theoretical interest in the anthropology of religion with a broader comparative attention to recent developments in South-East Asian studies, she offers a powerful alternative to existing interpretations of the relationship between culture and tradition in the region and beyond. This book addresses not only South-East Asianists, but all those with an interest in the anthropology of religion and post-colonial cultures. Power and Intimacy in the Christian Phillipines has won the Harry J. Benda prize for 2001.
