The Everyday and Private Life of a Communist Ruling Class: Greed and Creed discusses the history of everyday life under state socialism and the ways in which post-1945 modernity reached the shores of Soviet Bloc societies. This book explains state socialism’s failure to deliver on its promise to create a new type of modern civilization, an alternative to capitalism. Placing the practices of the class of salaried functionaries of the party-state in the focus, György Péteri demonstrates the decisive role of this class in bringing Western values and patterns of everyday to the cultures and societies of Eastern Europe. The empirical work presented covers areas like consumption and consumerism, mobility (the advent of mass automobilism) and leisure (hunting and vacationing). Based on the Hungarian experience, the author finds the communist avantgarde of the state-socialist project in the act of giving up the ambition to create a new (socialist) civilization already in the late 1950s, early 1960s. From the 1960s on, state socialism was no longer a rival of capitalism (the ‘highly developed West’) in terms of creating a competitive, alternative modernity in its everyday. Rather, Eastern Europe settles among other regions of the periphery or semi-periphery of capitalist development, reacting to, imitating and, in general, following the patterns of the highly developed capitalist center of the world system with some delay.

Penelitian ini, dilatar belakangi oleh masalah yang paling krusial dalam kebijakan, yaitu pada tahap implementasi, karena selalu ada kesenjangan antara isi kebijakan dan lingkungan dimana kebijakan diimplementasikan. Masalah implementasi kebijakan kurikulum berbasis Kerangka Kualifikasi Nasional Indonesia (KKNI) di Pendidikan Tinggi Keagamaan Islam Swasta (PTKIS) yaitu: pertama Ketidak sesuaian antara Permendikbud Nomor 73 tahun 2013 dengan dokumen Kurikulum yang disusun PTKIS. Kedua, ketidak sesuaian antara Permendikbud Nomor 73 tahun 2013 dengan praktek pembelajaran yang dilaksanakan, dan ketiga, ouput yang dihasilkan oleh PTKIS. Peran pimpinan PTKIS menentukan besar kecilnya tingkat kesenjangan tersebut. Oleh kerena itu, penelitian ini difokuskan pada peran dan kinerja pimpinan PTKIS. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengkaji: langkah-langkah pimpinan PTKIS dalam implemetasi kurikulum berbasis KKNI, faktor-faktor yang memengaruhi implemetasi kurikulum Pendidikan Tinggi berbasis KKNI; dampak implemetasi kurikulum berbasis Kurikulum Berbasis KKNI. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode deskriptif kualitatif. Teknik pengumpulan data dilakukan melalui wawancara; observasi, dan dokumentasi. Keabsahan data menggunakan teknik triangulasi. Hasil penelitian ini menujukan bahwa; Peran delapan ketua program studi Pendidikan Agama Islam belum optimal memerankan fungsinya sebagai penentu arah, wakil juru bicara, komunikator, mediator, dan integrator. Implemenntasi kebijakan Kurikulum Pendidikan Tinggi Berbasis KKKI di delapan program studi Pendidikan Agama Islam, belum efektif, masih kurangnya sumber daya, waktu, etos kampus, dukungan pengetahuan, minat dan sikap profesional. Dampak pengetahuan belum memperlihatkan kesesuaian antara apa yang ditawarkan oleh kebijakan dengan apa yang dibutuhkan. Belum adanya kesesuaian antara tugas yang disyaratkan oleh kebijakan dengan kemampuan organisasi pelaksana. Kesesuaian antara syarat yang diputuskan untuk memperoleh output program dengan apa yang dapat dilakukan oleh kelompok sasaran program. Adapun dampak ouput perolehan rata-rata Indeks Prestasi Kumulatif (IPK) mahasiswa masih rendah. Nilai akreditasi di delapan program studi program studi Pendidikan Agama Islam, masih rendah, belum mencapai kategori Unggul. Dengan demikian kinerja program studi belum akuntabel. Penelitian ini merokomendasikan; Pertama; perlu peningkatan wawasan pengetahuan, keahlian ketua program Studi. Kedua, Ketua Program Studi selalu melakukan komunikasi internal, maupun ekternal; Ketiga, penelitian ini, dapat dijadikan acuan bagi para peneliti-peneliti selanjutnya dalam rangka perbaikan kedepan, apabila metodologi dan temuan penelitian ini dinilai kredibel dan relevan, maka dapat dimanfaatkan sebagai referensi dalam meneliti kasus sejenis pada lembaga lainya.
