Buku Ajar Kebidanan Veteriner ini merupakan buku ajar yang secara spesifik mengulas tentang fisiologi kebuntingan, macam-macam teknik diagnosis kebuntingan, fisiologi partus, eutokia, distokia, abortus, dan patologi kebuntingan pada beberapa spesies hewan, khususnya pada pet animals dan beberapa hewan domestik. Pada buku ajar ini dapat diperoleh bahasan spesifik terkait kebuntingan dan deteksi kebuntingan khususnya pada pet animals dan beberapa hewan domestik. Hal ini yang menjadikan buku ini berbeda dari buku ajar kebidanan veteriner lainnya. Kebuntingan adalah masa seekor induk membawa embrio atau foetus dalam cavum uteri-nya selama periode gestasi masing-masing spesies. Partus adalah proses fisiologis hewan untuk mengeluarkan foetus dan plasenta melalui jalur lahir. Proses kelahiran diawali dengan dilatasi serviks bersamaan dengan mulai adanya konstraksi uterus yang diakhiri dengan keluarnya foetus dan plasenta secara spontan yang disebut dengan eutokia. Proses kelahiran secara spontan (eutokia) melibatkan beberapa hormon reproduksi yang berperan dalam membantu kelahiran seperti: prostaglandin, estrogen, oxytocin, dan relaxin. Sementara itu, distokia diartikan sebagai satah satu gangguan reproduksi yang sering didefinisikan sebagai kondisi ketidakmampuan induk untuk melahirkan fetus atau anaknya sendiri. Distokia dibagi menjadi dua kategori yaitu distokia maternal dan distokia fetalis.
