This is the story of Ron Davis, a charismatic young man who struggled to beat a 12 year addiction to drugs, only to be brutally murdered at the age of 39. The story of his parents, Brooks and Jean Davis, two ordinary people with extraordinary courage, who barely overcome one tragedy, only to be dealt another. A story of faith. Though Ron stumbled many times on the path to overcoming his addiction, he never once gave up the fight, always believing that victory was possible. A story of hope. Just as Ron never lost faith in himself, Brooks and Jean never lost faith in their son. Nor did they stop believing that the man responsible for Ron's murder would eventually be brought to justice-despite a crushing series of blows in a legal battle that lasted nearly eight years. Virginia was a battleground state in the struggle to implement Brown v. Board of Education, with one of the South’s largest and strongest NAACP units fighting against a program of noncompliance crafted by the state’s political leaders. Keep On Keeping On offers a detailed examination of how African Americans and the NAACP in Virginia successfully pursued a legal agenda that provided new educational opportunities for the state’s black population in the face of fierce opposition from segregationists and the Democratic Party of Harry F. Byrd Sr. Keep On Keeping On is the first book to offer a comprehensive view of African Americans’ efforts to obtain racial equality in Virginia in the later twentieth century. Brian J. Daugherity considers the relationship between the various levels of the NAACP, the ideas and actions of other African American organizations, and the stances of Virginia’s political leaders, white liberals and moderates, and segregationists. In doing so, the author provides a better understanding of the connections between the actions of white political leaders and those of black civil rights activists working to bring about school desegregation. Blending social, legal, southern, and African American history, this book sheds new light on the civil rights movement and white resistance to civil rights in Virginia and the South.

Mosquito written by Gayl Jones and has been published by Beacon Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2022-03-08 with Fiction categories.

From the highly acclaimed author of Corregidora and The Healing—a rare and unforgettable journey set along the US–Mexico border about identity, immigration, and “the new underground railroad.” “Jones’s great achievement is to reckon with both history and interiority, and to collapse the boundary between them.”—Anna Wiener, The New Yorker First discovered and edited by Toni Morrison, Gayl Jones has been described as one of the great literary writers of the 20th century. In Mosquito, she examines the US–Mexico border crisis through the eyes of Sojourner Nadine Jane Johnson, an African American truck driver known as Mosquito. Her journey beings after discovering a stowaway who nearly gives birth in the back of her truck, sparking her accidental and yet growing involvement in “the new underground railroad,” a sanctuary movement for Mexican immigrants. As Mosquito’s understanding of the immigrants’s need to forge new lives and identities deepens, so too does Mosquito’s romance with Ray, a gentle revolutionary, philosopher, and, perhaps, a priest. Along the road, Mosquito introduces us to Delgadina, a Chicana bartender who fries cactus, writes haunting stories, and studies to become a detective; Monkey Bread, a childhood pal who is, improbably, assistant to a blonde star in Hollywood; Maria, the stowaway who names her baby Journal, a misspelled tribute to her unwitting benefactor Sojourner; and many more.

I was born on May 15, 1922, in Pasadena California, Our gracious God having endowed me with gifts and talents. On my knees at Mother's Knees, I met Jesus at age 3. As a natural singer, I was soloing in Church by age 5, in quartets, on Radio and a bass lead with an Opera Company (La Traviata, etc)by age 17. and by age 23 was a Flight Engineer in the Army Air Corps, and had written a couple of Poems. By age 75, I had been a Machinist 25 years, was proficient at the Piano, Organ, had taken an Accordian on a West Africa Missionary Tour, and had written several more Poems, both humorous and Spiritual, sired four girls and a boy. We had moved 650 miles North, and In a new Church I showed a Bible teacher my poems. He persuaded me to start writing poetry seriously, to be posted on his Web Site. Having the gift of the Holy Spirit, Under His anointing, I wrote Poetry, only as the Holy Spirit gave it. The teacher became my best friend, and we ministered in Rest Homes together, and He was a tremendous influence in my life. My Son-in-law, a very staunch supporter of my poetry.was putting the poems in a note book. My wife passsed away and my new Pastor, who had previosly been a Graphics Artist, said that if I would put them in a book, he'd create the cover. By January, 2008, I had written 260 Holy Spirit inspired Poems for a book, and one for the reader.
