There was a time when the Keweenaw Peninsula and the surrounding areas, known as the Copper Country, produced 90% of the world's copper. It wasn't just that tere was so much copper in the Keweenaw -- in fact, although it exists in massive amounts it was difficult to find and even harder and more expensive to produce -- but that Keweenaw Copper was the purest to be found anywhere. The history of the Keweenaw must include the history of copper, and vice verse; and while the heyday of copper may be over, the stories and the rich history remains. The Keweenaw is not merely about copper, however. In this land you'll find beautiful shores, breaktaking forests, fascinating wildlife...and of course some of the most unique characters in the world.
