Lim Kim San's name is linked inextricably to Singapore's public housing. This is entirely appropriate because he played a crucial role in the success of the Housing Board, which transformed both the country's physical landscape and gave Singaporeans a tangible stake in the future of their young nation. However, important though Lim's role was at the Board and as Minister for National Development, it was not his sole contribution to Singapore. He made a decisive difference in several other key areas, including Finance, and Interior and Defence. This biography draws on Lim's Oral History Interview, which was made accessible to the author, the Hansard, Lim's speeches, and newspaper clippings, in addition to fresh interviews conducted with other Singapore leaders who had worked with Lim. The result is a composite picture of a great Singapore leader.

At the tender age of seven, the author suffered the loss of her beloved mother. Growing up then brought the instability of constant change and a heart often in turmoil. Looking back with an 'understanding of the heart, ' Anne Lim's memoir traces a path leading to forgiveness. The reader is given intimate, intense glimpses - of a life formed by the survival of trauma. Yet, through the darkness, a light continues to shine, fierce and strong. The author's cameo recollections of her youth in Singapore of the 1960s and '70s are also told with humour and glimmers of joy. "You lose your mother at a young age. Your father subsequently fails as a parent. How can you then transcend the pain and find meaning in all that has passed? Poignant and honest, Anne Lim's memoir moves the soul. As you read this evocative text, fresh dimensions will unfold before your eyes and you will be transported to realms of deep understanding." Verena Tay, writer and storyteller "This work demonstrates the healthful and life-giving power of artistic creation, in particular, the power of the word. ... The search for a personal truth based on but going beyond objective truth, drives this narrative. " Anne Lee Tzu Pheng Recipient of the Singapore Cultural Medallion, 1985

Sculptor and printmaker Kim Lim (1936-1997) had a lifelong fascination with space and its relationship with two- and three-dimensions. This important new publication explores her outstanding body of work.In a series of fascinating chapters, leading art-world specialists survey the artist's rich career and legacy across four decades. Exploring Lim's profound contribution to the development of modern British abstract art, her marginalisation in the histories of sculpture since her death is questioned. Through reproductions of Lim's work in wood, metal, stone and paper, the artist's shape-shifting oeuvre, which continually probed relationships between space, light and form, is rightfully brought centre stage. Including discussion of Lim's Asian heritage and its connection to her work, this publication is essential reading for all those seeking new perspectives on both Lim and British art history more broadly.
