This book encompasses the exciting developments and challenges in the fast-moving and rapidly expanding research field of single-molecule kinetic analysis of cell signaling that promises to be one of the most significant and exciting areas of biological research for the foreseeable future. Cell signaling is carried out by complicated reaction networks of macromolecules, and single-molecule analyses has already demonstrated its power to unravel complex reaction dynamics in purified systems. To date, most of the published research in the field of single-molecule processes in cells, focus on the dynamic properties (translational movements of the centre of mass) of biological molecules. However, we hope that this book presents as many kinetic analyses of cell signaling as possible. Although single-molecule kinetic analysis of cellular systems is a relatively young field when compared with the analysis of single-molecule movements in cells, this type of analysis is highly important because it directly relates to the molecular functions that control cellular behavior and in the future, single-molecule kinetic analysis will be largely directed towards cellular systems. Thus, we hope that this book will be of interest to all those working in the fields of molecular and cell biology, as well as biophysics and biochemistry.

"a gem of a textbook which manages to produce a genuinely fresh, concise yet comprehensive guide" –Mark Leake, University of York "destined to become a standard reference.... Not just a ‘how to’ handbook but also an accessible primer in the essentials of kinetic theory and practice." –Michael Geeves, University of Kent "covers the entire spectrum of approaches, from the traditional steady state methods to a thorough account of transient kinetics and rapid reaction techniques, and then on to the new single molecule techniques" –Stephen Halford, University of Bristol This illustrated treatment explains the methods used for measuring how much a reaction gets speeded up, as well as the framework for solving problems such as ligand binding and macromolecular folding, using the step-by-step approach of numerical integration. It is a thoroughly modern text, reflecting the recent ability to observe reactions at the single-molecule level, as well as advances in microfluidics which have given rise to femtoscale studies. Kinetics is more important now than ever, and this book is a vibrant and approachable entry for anyone who wants to understand mechanism using transient or single molecule kinetics without getting bogged down in advanced mathematics. Clive R. Bagshaw is Emeritus Professor at the University of Leicester, U.K., and Research Associate at the University of California at Santa Cruz, U.S.A.

This handbook offers a practical guide to the principles of quantitative analysis in biological experiments. The material is primarily aimed at working molecular biologists, but the scope and clarity of presentation make it equally suitable as an introduction for students. Topics covered range from the basics — such as measuring the concentrations of macromolecules — through considerations of binding constants and the kinetics of molecular interactions. The book ends with a thorough consideration of data analysis.

Conformation Of Macromolecules written by Y. G. Medvedevskikh and has been published by Nova Publishers this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2007 with Science categories.

Conformation is statistical property of the macromolecules consisting of a number of N structural units, links, position of which in a space one relatively to other is not inflexibly fixed by chemical bonds and assumes the possible random configurations. The number of possible configurations at N ” 1 is so great that permits to use the statistical methods at their analysis. That is why the conformation is a result of statistical averaging on all possible configurations of the macromolecule. It was for a long time notified and confirmed by computer modelling that the conformation of polymeric chain should be described by self-avoiding random walks statistics (SARW) but not Gaussian random walks statistics, assuming the phantom behaviour of polymeric chains. Nevertheless, Gaussian statistics is dominating at the analysis of thermodynamic, dynamic and kinetic stainings of the macromolecules conformation. This book will be useful for scientists who are engaged in the physical chemistry of polymers and their solutions.

Kinetics For The Life Sciences written by H. Gutfreund and has been published by Cambridge University Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 1995-09-14 with Medical categories.

The aim of the book is to introduce the reader to the kinetic analysis of a wide range of biological processes at the molecular level. It is intended to show that the same approach can be used to resolve the number of steps in enzyme reactions, muscle contraction, visual perception and ligand binding receptors that trigger other physiological processes. Attention is also given to methods for characterizing these steps in chemical terms. Although the treatment is mainly theoretical, a wide range of examples and experimental techniques are also introduced and an historical approach is used to demonstrate the development of the theory and experimental techniques of kinetic analysis in biology.

Principles of Enzyme Kinetics discusses the principles of enzyme kinetics at an intermediate level. It is primarily written for first-year research students in enzyme kinetics. The book is composed of 10 chapters. Chapter 1 provides the basic principles of enzyme kinetics with a brief discussion of dimensional analysis. Subsequent chapters cover topics on the essential characteristics of steady-state kinetics, temperature dependence, methods for deriving steady-state rate equations, and control of enzyme activity. Integrated rate equations, and introductions to the study of fast reactions and the statistical aspects of enzyme kinetics are provided as well. Chemists and biochemists will find the book invaluable.
