In the past 12 years since its publication, Concepts of Modern Catalysis and Kinetics has become a standard textbook for graduate students at universities worldwide. Emphasizing fundamentals from thermodynamics, physical chemistry, spectroscopy, solid state chemistry and quantum chemistry, it introduces catalysis from a molecular perspective, and stresses how it is interwoven with the field of reaction kinetics. The authors go on to explain how the world of reacting molecules is connected to the real world of industry, by discussing the various scales (nano - micro - macro) that play a role in catalysis. Reflecting the modern-day focus on energy supplies, this third edition devotes attention to such processes as gas-to-liquids, coal-to-liquids, biomass conversion and hydrogen production. From reviews of the prior editions: 'Overall, this is a valuable book that I will use in teaching undergraduates and postgraduates.' (Angewandte Chemie - I. E.) '...this excellent book is highly recommended to students at technical universities, but also entrants in chemical industry. Furthermore, this informative handbook is also a must for all professionals in the community.' (AFS) 'I am impressed by the coverage of the book and it is a valuable addition to the catalysis literature and I highly recommend purchase' (Energy Sources)

Introduction To Non Linear Kinetics In Heterogeneous Catalysis written by Yuri I. Pyatnitsky and has been published by Nova Publishers this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2000 with Science categories.

This book comprises seven chapters. The first chapter addresses a phenomenological approach to the concept 'reaction rate', which views the complex reaction as a single unit whose progress if judged from measurements of the formation rates of the reaction participants; it also sets forth the main strategies by which to determine the rates of heterogeneous catalytic reactions. Another approach, a mechanistic one, relying upon the reaction mechanisms considered in the second chapter that has recourse to the Horiuti-Temkin complex reaction kinetics theory and the elementary statement of the graph method application in chemical kinetics. The third, fourth and fifth chapters consistently expound the philosophy of the steady state multiplicity, auto-oscillations, and the reciprocal effect of competitive catalytic reactions. The sixth and seventh chapters concentrate on the kinetics of some pragmatically important heterogeneous and heterogeneous-homogeneous catalytic reactions. Most results, presented in these chapters were obtained in the authors' laboratories.

Defines the emerging field of catalytic reaction synthesis in the search for new catalysts and catalytic processes. Illustrates how experimental data from diverse sources can be consolidated to form a quantitative description of the essential chemistry taking place on the catalyst surface. Elucidates the possible relationships between catalyst kinetic properties and surface chemical bonding properties. Offers examples of microkinetic analysis and catalytic reaction synthesis for a variety of catalytic reactions over metals, oxides, and zeolite catalysts. Illustrates the underlying strategy used to formulate a microkinetic model, calibrate the model to the existing experimental data, and assess the critical aspects of the essential surface chemistry involved in the catalytic process.

Kinetics and reactor modeling for heterogeneous catalytic reactions are prominent tools for investigating and understanding catalyst functionalities at nanoscale and the related rates of complex reaction networks. This book illustrates some examples related to the transformation of simple to more complex feedstocks, including different types of reactor designs, i.e., steady-state, transient plug flow reactors, and TAP reactors for which there is sometimes a strong gap in the operating conditions from ultra-high-vacuum to high-pressure conditions. In conjunction, new methodologies have emerged, giving rise to more robust microkinetics models. As exemplified, they include the kinetics and the dynamics of the reactors and span a large range of length and time scales. The objective of this Special Issue is to provide contributions that can illustrate recent advances and novel methodologies for elucidating the kinetics of heterogeneous reactions and the necessary multiscale approach for optimizing the reactor design. This book is dedicated to postgraduate and scientific researchers, and experts in heterogeneous catalysis. It may also serve as a source of original information for the elaboration of lessons on catalysis for Master students.

Many processes of the chemical industry are based upon heterogeneous catalysis. Two important items of these processes are the development of the catalyst itself and the design and optimization of the reactor. Both aspects would benefit from rigorous and accurate kinetic modeling, based upon information on the working catalyst gained from classical steady state experimentation, but also from studies using surface science techniques, from quantum chemical calculations providing more insight into possible reaction pathways and from transient experimentation dealing with reactions and reactors. This information is seldom combined into a kinetic model and into a quantitative description of the process. Generally the catalytic aspects are dealt with by chemists and by physicists, while the chemical engineers are called upon for mechanical aspects of the reactor design and its control. The symposium "Dynamics of Surfaces and Reaction Kinetics in Heterogeneous Catalysis" aims at illustrating a more global and concerted approach through a number of prestigious keynote lectures and severely screened oral and poster presentations.

Catalytic Kinetics: Chemistry and Engineering, Second Edition offers a unified view that homogeneous, heterogeneous, and enzymatic catalysis form the cornerstone of practical catalysis. The book has an integrated, cross-disciplinary approach to kinetics and transport phenomena in catalysis, but still recognizes the fundamental differences between different types of catalysis. In addition, the book focuses on a quantitative chemical understanding and links the mathematical approach to kinetics with chemistry. A diverse group of catalysts is covered, including catalysis by acids, organometallic complexes, solid inorganic materials, and enzymes, and this fully updated second edition contains a new chapter on the concepts of cascade catalysis. Finally, expanded content in this edition provides more in-depth discussion, including topics such as organocatalysis, enzymatic kinetics, nonlinear dynamics, solvent effects, nanokinetics, and kinetic isotope effects. Fully revised and expanded, providing the latest developments in catalytic kinetics Bridges the gaps that exist between hetero-, homo- and enzymatic-catalysis Provides necessary tools and new concepts for researchers already working in the field of catalytic kinetics Written by internationally-renowned experts in the field Examples and exercises following each chapter make it suitable as an advanced course book
