Strip The Auctioneer At Christie S written by Christian Jankowski and has been published by Walther Konig Verlag this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2010 with Art auctions categories.

With Strip the Auctioneer, Christian Jankowski landed a real coup, and surely not coincidentally at a time when another artist, in an unprecedented move, avoided the intermediary gallery trade and auctioned off his annual production directly. Is it really all about the elitist distribution strategies of the market, or rather about an organized sale by an artist and auctioneer at top prices? Christian Jankowski declares this spectacle and all its components to be a work of art. 'I must have used this hammer for, well, at least eight years - I would say some fifty to seventy sales. I started with a few lots in small sales, being the junior auctioneer, and then slowly but steadily I have grown into being one of the senior auctioneers. Several auction records were broken with this hammer, including the most important Dutch auction: a portrait of Mrs. M.J. de Lange by Jan Toorop, sold in 2005 to the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam for 818,400 euros. I sold thousands of lots with this hammer.' - Arno Verkade, Auctioneer. English and German text.

In this classic mystery, a Dutch police detective investigates a woman’s murder with assistance from the man accused of killing her. A woman, Elsa, is brutally murdered in her Amsterdam apartment. Her ex-lover, Martin, is seen outside the building around the time of the crime. The witness who saw him? A policeman. It looks like a straightforward case—but police inspector Van der Valk is not convinced. Despite all the evidence—and the fact that Martin originally denied he was at the apartment—he believes Martin is not guilty of murder. Instead of charging him, Van der Valk takes him on a tour: a tour of the investigation, a tour of Martin’s own past and a tour into the darkly obsessive world of Elsa . . . NOW A LIMITED SERIES ON MASTERPIECE PBS Praise for Nicolas Freeling and Van der Valk “Freeling’s Inspector Van der Valk is less rugged than Rebus, less parsonical than Dalgliesh, more Morse than Frost, and more Maigret than any of them. Marvelous.” —Anita Brookner “[Freeling] has given the detective story new dimensions much as John Le Carré has done for the spy novel.” —Newsweek

He briefly resents Heidi's arrival, but the girl's evident intelligence and cheerful yet unaffected demeanor soon earn his genuine, if reserved, affection. With each season that passes, the mountaintop inhabitants grow more attached to Heidi.

Amsterdam written by Russell Shorto and has been published by Vintage this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2013-10-22 with History categories.

An endlessly entertaining portrait of the city of Amsterdam and the ideas that make it unique, by the author of the acclaimed Island at the Center of the World Tourists know Amsterdam as a picturesque city of low-slung brick houses lining tidy canals; student travelers know it for its legal brothels and hash bars; art lovers know it for Rembrandt's glorious portraits. But the deeper history of Amsterdam, what makes it one of the most fascinating places on earth, is bound up in its unique geography-the constant battle of its citizens to keep the sea at bay and the democratic philosophy that this enduring struggle fostered. Amsterdam is the font of liberalism, in both its senses. Tolerance for free thinking and free love make it a place where, in the words of one of its mayors, "craziness is a value." But the city also fostered the deeper meaning of liberalism, one that profoundly influenced America: political and economic freedom. Amsterdam was home not only to religious dissidents and radical thinkers but to the world's first great global corporation. In this effortlessly erudite account, Russell Shorto traces the idiosyncratic evolution of Amsterdam, showing how such disparate elements as herring anatomy, naked Anabaptists parading through the streets, and an intimate gathering in a sixteenth-century wine-tasting room had a profound effect on Dutch-and world-history. Weaving in his own experiences of his adopted home, Shorto provides an ever-surprising, intellectually engaging story of Amsterdam.

The Chosen People written by Abraham Naftali Oppenheim and has been published by this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 1996 with History categories.

A historical survey of the transfer in July 1944 of 222 Jews, some of them Palestinian nationals, to Palestine in exchange for Germans interned by the British in Palestine. Among the 222 were Oppenheim's relatives. Discusses briefly the fate of Dutch Jews during the Nazi period, the Westerbork transit camp, and Bergen-Belsen, where most of the internees selected for the exchange were billeted. There had been earlier exchanges in 1941-42, through Turkey. Negotiations for the third exchange began in 1943, for which the Jewish Agency prepared lists of those who were eligible. The lists were reduced by the Nazis, and only 222 former prisoners from Bergen-Belsen, Vittel, and Laufen were transported to Palestine. Appendix 1 (p. 159-163) contains excerpts from Clara Asscher-Pinkhof's memoirs from Westerbork. Appendix 2 (p. 165-186) contains the final part of Helmut Mainz's unpublished report on the "222 transport". Appendix 3 (p. 187-194) contains a list of those who arrived in Palestine in 1944.

Pediatric Neuroimaging written by A. James Barkovich and has been published by Lippincott Williams & Wilkins this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2012-02-20 with Medical categories.

The thoroughly updated Fifth Edition of Pediatric Neuroimaging is a highly illustrated text-reference that describes and illustrates the full range of pediatric disorders diagnosable by modern neuroimaging. Covering the diagnosis of brain, spinal, and head and neck disorders in the pediatric patient, the text is rooted in the principle that the proper interpretation of studies requires the acquisition of high-quality images and an understanding of the basic concepts of neuroembryology, normal development, and pathophysiology. Much coverage is given to the disorders seen in everyday practice. The emphasis is on CT and MRI, which are the optimal imaging modalities in children. The first two chapters describe useful imaging techniques in this patient population and the imaging manifestations of normal development, to distinguish that from manifestations of disease. The final ten chapters of the book are divided by groups of diseases, with numerous drawings and images that illuminate the underlying pathologic and embryologic/genetic bases of each disorder. The goal is provide a basic approach to groups of diseases, then offer detailed information about the clinical manifestations, underlying biochemistry, molecular biology, genetics and/or pathology of specific disorders. The book incorporates the essential concepts for obtaining good images and understanding normal development, which helps the reader to distinguish normal developmental changes from disease
