Bis zum Auftreten des Islam im 7. Jh. war der grosste Teil des Nahen Ostens christlich. Das "Kleine Lexikon des Christlichen Orients", dessen erste Auflage 1975 als "Kleines Worterbuch des Christlichen Orients" erschien, will das Wissen uber dieses orientalische Christentum von den Anfangen bis zur Gegenwart in ubersichtlicher Form darbieten. Die Neuauflage ist stark uberarbeitet und aktualisiert. Ausfuhrliche Literaturangaben ermoglichen tieferes Eindringen in die Materie.
