Studienarbeit aus dem Jahr 2022 im Fachbereich Politik - Klima- und Umweltpolitik, , Sprache: Deutsch, Abstract: Im Mittelpunkt dieser Arbeit steht die Frage, in welchem Maß sich der Klimawandel auf die Emotionen junger Erwachsener auswirkt. Schmelzende Polarkappen, das Absterben der Korallenriffe, Ökosysteme, die kollabieren und Menschen, die ihre Heimat und Lebensgrundlagen verlieren, das ist eine Terminologie, die seit geraumer Zeit unter der Thematik des Klimawandels miteinander in Verbindung gebracht werden. Angesichts der Klimakrise sorgen sich immer mehr Menschen um die Zukunft. Das zeigen auch die Daten von Suchmaschinen im Internet. Im Jahr 2018 verzeichnete Google mehr als 5 Millionen Einträge zum Stichwort „Klimawandel“ und der englische Begriff „climate change“ wurde über 100 Millionen Mal aufgerufen. Die Popularität der Begriffe ist seit 2004 steigend, wie der „Google Trends Grafik“ entnommen werden kann. Insbesondere Länder, die bereits die Auswirkungen des Klimawandels verstärkt wahrnehmen, wie zum Beispiel die Fidschis, Äthiopien oder die Philippinen, haben den Begriff vergleichsweise häufig gegoogelt. Bei dem Suchbegriff „Klimaangst“ dokumentiert Google, im Vergleich zu den Vorjahren, einen Anstieg von 565 Prozent zwischen den Jahren 2020 und 2021. Doch der Klimawandel und der damit verbundene Klimaschutz ist kein neues Phänomen, sondern hat eine jahrzehntelange Geschichte. Schon Anfang der 70er Jahre vereinten sich Aktivisten und gründeten NGOs, wie z.B. 1971 Greenpeace in Kanada. Bereits 1980 wurde Greenpeace Deutschland gegründet und startete den ersten Protest anlässlich der Verklappung von Dünnsäure durch die Bayer AG in die Nordsee. Die Verseuchung von Luft, Wasser und Böden durch hochgiftige Chemikalien der Chemiekonzerne, weckte vor allem die jüngere deutsche Bevölkerung auf und es formten sich politische Bewegungen mit ökologischen Orientierungen, wie beispielsweise die Alternative Liste, gegründet im Jahr 1978 in West-Berlin. Der Entwicklungsprozess von einer kleinen alternativen Wahllistenpartei, zu einer Regierungspartei, ist maßgeblich für die Bedeutsamkeit des Klimaschutzes, auch auf politischer Ebene. Die gesundheitlichen, wirtschaftlichen, politischen und ökologischen Auswirkungen des Klimawandels sind unumstritten. Umso wichtiger ist es, den Fokus auch auf die psychische Gesundheit zu legen. Die Fokussierung auf diesen Aspekt ist insofern von Relevanz, da die Auswirkungen und Folgen des Klimawandels auf unterschiedlichste Weise im Wechselspiel mit unserer menschlichen Psyche stehen. Aus den Folgen des Klimawandels können Arbeitslosigkeit, Existenzängste, der Verlust der Heimat oder von Familienangehörigen resultieren, die eine Belastung darstellen und die für die Psyche, auch auf klinischer Ebene, gravierende Konsequenzen trägt. Ein Beispiel ist der „Hurricane Katrina“, der 2005 Teile der südöstlichen Staaten der USA zerstörte und besonders die Stadt New Orleans traf. Jeder zweite, der direkt durch den Sturm betroffen war, entwickelte in den Monaten danach eine nachweisbare Depression, Panik- oder Angststörung. Bei jeder sechsten Person trat eine posttraumatische Belastungsstörung auf. Erschwerende psychologische Reaktionen auf den Klimawandel sind Konfliktvermeidung, Fatalismus, Angst, Hilflosigkeit und Resignation. Nicht nur direkt Betroffene leiden psychisch unter den Auswirkungen des Klimawandels, sondern auch Jugendliche erleben eine starke seelische Betroffenheit aus Sorge um die Zukunft. Dies kann ein entscheidender Katalysator für die mögliche Entwicklung von Angststörungen und Depressionen sein, wie eine Studie der „Bath University“ aus dem Jahr 2021 ergab, in der 10 000 Schüler aus 10 Ländern befragt wurden. Aus einer Verzweiflung, Sorge, und Enttäuschung gegenüber der Politik entstand 2018 die FFF (Fridays for Future Bewegung), organisiert von Schülern und Studenten. Mittlerweile haben sich regionale, nationale und Weltweile Unterstützungsorganisationen gebildet, z.B. Scientists For Future und Psychologists For Future.
