Knowledge-based Configuration incorporates knowledge representation formalisms to capture complex product models and reasoning methods to provide intelligent interactive behavior with the user. This book represents the first time that corporate and academic worlds collaborate integrating research and commercial benefits of knowledge-based configuration. Foundational interdisciplinary material is provided for composing models from increasingly complex products and services. Case studies, the latest research, and graphical knowledge representations that increase understanding of knowledge-based configuration provide a toolkit to continue to push the boundaries of what configurators can do and how they enable companies and customers to thrive. - Includes detailed discussion of state-of-the art configuration knowledge engineering approaches such as automated testing and debugging, redundancy detection, and conflict management - Provides an overview of the application of knowledge-based configuration technologies in the form of real-world case studies from SAP, Siemens, Kapsch, and more - Explores the commercial benefits of knowledge-based configuration technologies to business sectors from services to industrial equipment - Uses concepts that are based on an example personal computer configuration knowledge base that is represented in an UML-based graphical language

Product Structuring for Design Reuse, Product Platform systems, Configuration and Modularisation is gaining growing attention in global operating companies as means to enhance productivity in manufacturing of customised product variants. th In that situation it was a great opportunity to get the 5 Product Structuring Workshop to Tampere. The special theme of the workshop was chosen Design for Configuration. We see that Knowledge Systematisation is an important research area for Product Structuring. We made a decision to apply Knowledge Systematisation for the workshop itself: we used the small group working method-Double Team Method- in workshop discussions for creating adding values based on presented papers, and after workshop we have made a synthesis for crystallizing results from papers and group works. On the behalf of organisers I thank for the enthusiastic participation on the all of workshop and Finnish Academy and Tampere Centre of Expertise for stages funding the workshop and publication of this book. I am sure that all participants would like to join to my many thanks for the workshop secretary, Ms Jenni Kauppila for her efficient organisation work. After workshop she has made excellent work as our editorial secretary.

Automated Configuration Problem Solving written by Charles J. Petrie and has been published by Springer Science & Business Media this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2012-06-15 with Computers categories.

Automated Configuration has long been the subject of intensive research, especially in Artificial Intelligence. It is a pervasive problem to be solved, and it is a good test of various knowledge representation and reasoning techniques. The problem shows up in applications such as various electrical circuit design, utility computing and even concurrent engineering. Automated Configuration Problem Solving defines the ubiquitous problem, illustrates the various solution techniques, and includes a survey using these techniques from the mid-70's until the mid-90's. During this time, various general approaches were developed, and then become more specialized. This book covers the development of the general problem solving techniques for automated configuration, which are based on both published academic work and patents.

This book discusses the models and tools available for solving configuration problems, emphasizes the value of model integration to obtain comprehensive and robust configuration decisions, proposes solutions for supply chain configuration in the presence of stochastic and dynamic factors, and illustrates application of the techniques discussed in applied studies. It is divided into four parts, which are devoted to defining the supply chain configuration problem and identifying key issues, describing solutions to various problems identified, proposing technologies for enabling supply chain confirmations, and discussing applied supply chain configuration problems. Its distinguishing features are: an explicit focus on the configuration problem an in-depth coverage of configuration models an emphasis on model integration and application of information modeling techniques in decision-making New to this edition is Part II: Technologies, which introduces readers to various technologies being utilized for supply chain configuration and contains two new chapters. The volume also has an added emphasis on the most recent theoretical developments and empirical findings in the area of supply chain management and related topics. This book is appropriate for professional and technical readers, including research directors, research associates, and institutions involved in both the design and implementation of logistics systems in manufacturing and service-related products. An equally appropriate audience is the academic reader, including professors, research associates, and students in industrial, manufacturing, mechanical, and automotive engineering departments, as well as engineering management, management sciences, and production and operations management.

Managing Complexity written by Jocelyn Bellemare and has been published by Springer this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2016-08-10 with Business & Economics categories.

This proceedings volume presents the latest research from the worldwide mass customization, personalization and co-creation (MCPC) community bringing together new thoughts and results from various disciplines within the field. The chapters are based on papers from The MCPC 2015 Conference where the emphasis was placed on “managing complexity.” MCPC is now beginning to emerge in many industries as a profitable business model. But customization and personalization go far beyond the sheer individualization of products and become an extension of current business models and production styles. This book covers topics such as complexity management of knowledge-based systems in manufacturing design and production, sustainable mass customization, choice navigation, and product modeling. The chapters are contributed by a wide range of specialists, offering cutting-edge research, as well as insightful advances in industrial practice in key areas. The MCPC 2015 Conference had a strong focus on real life MCPC applications, and this proceedings volume reflects this. MCPC strategies aim to profit from the fact that people are different. Their objective is to turn customer heterogeneities into profit opportunities, hence addressing the current trend of long tail business models. Mass customization means to provide goods and services that best serve individual customers’ personal needs with near mass production efficiency. This book brings together the latest from MCPC thought leaders, entrepreneurs, technology developers, and researchers that use these strategies in practice.
