As the field of migration studies has grown, the asymmetrical relationship between researchers in the Global North and in the South has produced a body of work that centres the concerns of the former. Those from the Global North and wealthier countries continue to produce the greater portion of this research, while research from Global South scholars with lived experiences as migrants is received as anecdotal or too niche to have universal application. Knowledge, Power, and Migration assembles researchers from across the divide to question the ways in which research practices can change the conversation on immigration. It encourages a necessary curiosity about how scholarship in the field can shape global, social, and epistemic justice. Migration is a constant in human history, but the sharp decline in permanent resettlement options, increasingly selective criteria, and violent enforcement measures of the twenty-first century constitute a crisis of immigration policy. Only by redressing the inequalities it shares with global governance structures can the discipline confront this historic challenge. Research on immigration can occasion reflections and practices that challenge epistemic injustices. Knowledge, Power, and Migration contributes to this ongoing project while offering insights on the practical organization of new forms of dialogue on migration in a largely unequal world.

This volume draws on a rich set of data and institutional analysis to present findings on the impact of migration on the economies of both migrant-sending and migrant-receiving countries in the East Asia and Pacific region. The papers point out that due to demographic trends in the region, managing migration is not a matter of choice but one of necessity, and that while migration has significant and positive impact there are also important policy issues that need to be addressed to enhance migration's development impact and realize its full potential. This book comprises background papers written for a companion World Bank volume, International Migration and Development in East Asia and the Pacific. The authors are leading researchers on migration and development from different countries of the region.

Migration In The Time Of Revolution written by Taomo Zhou and has been published by Cornell University Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2019-10-15 with History categories.
Migration in the Time of Revolution explores the complex relationship between China and Indonesia from 1945 to 1967, during a period when citizenship, identity, and political loyalty were in flux. Taomo Zhou examines the experiences of migrants, including youths seeking an ancestral homeland they had never seen and economic refugees whose skills were unwelcome in a socialist state. Zhou argues that these migrants played an active role in shaping the diplomatic relations between Beijing and Jakarta, rather than being passive subjects of historical forces. By using newly declassified documents and oral history interviews, Migration in the Time of Revolution demonstrates how the actions and decisions of ethnic Chinese migrants were crucial in the development of post-war relations between China and Indonesia. By integrating diplomatic history with migration studies, Taomo Zhou provides a nuanced understanding of how ordinary people's lives intersected with broader political processes in Asia, offering a fresh perspective on the Cold War's social dynamics.

Doctoral Thesis / Dissertation from the year 2015 in the subject Earth Science / Geography - Geopolitics, grade: PhD, Panjab University (Panjab University), language: English, abstract: The discourse of ‘climate migrations’ will reinforce the old borders (physical and mental) and create new ‘climate borders’ between India and Bangladesh. In International Relations State system is expected uphold five basic social values security, freedom, order, justice and welfare but climate change would be challenging all these social values. This work revolves around interrelated key concepts of critical geopolitics, imaginative geographies and borders in order to map out geopolitics of fear, deployed through the imaginative geographies of climate induced migrations, and analyze its implications for India and Bangladesh. This work stated that a critical social science intervention in the nascent discourse of ‘climate change migration’ is needed, in order to uncover and analyze the political uses and abuses of climate fear, and growing securitization and militarization of climate change policy and responses. Far from being the problem of National Security and the state and non state actors needs to desecuretise the issue of climate induced migration and shift their attention towards the most neglected aspects of climate affair i.e. the issue climate ethics and equity. This work further explore the prospects of counter imaginative geographies of hope and the role they could possibly play in approaching the issue of climate change induced migration from the angle of human security and human rights of the socially disadvantaged, dispossessed and disadvantage in the Global South.

The Crimmigrant Other written by Katja Franko and has been published by Routledge this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2019-12-06 with Law categories.
Western societies are immersed in debates about immigration and illegality. This book examines these processes and outlines how the figure of the "crimmigrant other" has emerged not only as a central object of media and political discourse, but also as a distinct penal subject connecting migration and the logic of criminalization and insecurity. Illegality defines not only a quality of certain acts, but becomes an existential condition, which shapes the daily lives of large groups within the society. Drawing on rich empirical material from national and international contexts, Katja Franko outlines the social production of the crimmigrant other as a multi-layered phenomenon that is deeply rooted in the intricate connections between law, scientific knowledge, bureaucratic practices, politics and popular discourse.

It begins from the premise that the concerns of child protection have broadened considerably in recent years, and that the policies and practices are complex. It also begins from the recognition that child protection policies and practices are themselves shaped by a wide range of social, cultural and political factors, which vary both over time and in different contexts and jurisdictions.
