Bergesernya buadaya masyarakat modern ternyata tidak menyurutkan langkah pendukung poligini untuk mempertahankan ortodoksi produk penafsiran klasik. Sementara sistem masyarakat sudah mengubah wajahnya dari budaya patriafsiran menuju tatanan sosial yang egaliter, corak positivisme fiqih tersebut tetap saja yang mengemuka. Padahal, teks-teks keagamaan klasik seringkali justru dimanfaatkan oleh kelompok oportunis untuk melakukan semacam kejahatan atas nama agama (religion crime). Untuk itu, beberapa cendekiawan muslim kontemporer menawarkan banyak gagasan baru sekitar poligini. Buku ini menyingkap poligini perspektif cendekiawan muslim internasional seperti Muhammad Abduh (Mesir), Muhammad Syahrur (Syria), Asghar Ali Engineer (India) dan Fazlur Rahman (Pakistan). Gagasan para Ulama tersebut kemudian Penulis kontekstualisasikan dengan ortodoksi poligini yang ada di Indonesia yang belakangan semakin merebak. Bahkan tak jarang mereka juga sering kali menghujat regulasi poligini dalam UU No. 1 Tahun 1974 Tentang Perkawinan dan Kompilasi Hukum Islam (KHI). Dengan deskripsi mendalam dan analisis yang tajam, buku ini dengan mudah mematahkan argumentasi pemikiran ortodoksi tentang poligini karena beberapa alasan aktual yang selama ini dikesampingkan, seperti kuantitas jumlah laki-laki dan perempuan yang nyaris sama dan potensi kemandulan yang secara medis ternyata juga bisa terjadi karena mandulnya pihak suami. Planet bumi semakin tak layak ditinggali. Laju krisis sosial-ekologis semakin pesat, intensitasnya semakin tinggi, dan skalanya semakin meluas. This book is the first work that comprehensively presents the accounts of Lia Eden, a former flower arranger who claims to have received divine messages from the Archangel Gabriel and founded the divine Eden Kingdom in her house in Jakarta. This book places Lia Eden’s prophetic trajectory in the context of diverse Indonesian spiritual and religious traditions, by which hundreds of others also claimed to have been commanded by God to lead people and to establish religious groups. This book offers a fresh approach towards the rich Indonesian religious and spiritual traditions with particular attention to the accounts of the emergence of indigenous prophets who founded some popular religions. It presents the history of prophetic tradition which remains alive in Indonesian society from the colonial to reform period. It also explores the ways in which these prophets rebelled against two hegemonies: colonial power in the past and Islamic orthodoxy in the present. This book completes a series of three volumes cataloguing the Javanese-language manuscripts housed in four repositories in the Central Javanese city of Surakarta that were preserved in microfilm under the auspices of the Cornell University's Surakarta Manuscript Project. The present volume describes the manuscripts of the Radya Pustaka Museum and the private library of the late Panembahan Hardjonagoro, a body of materials that date from the early eighteenth to the early twentieth century.
