March und Johan P. Olsen erklären lässt. Zuerst wird dafür die Konfliktsituation als solche beschrieben. Anschließend wird näher auf die Züge der beiden Ansätze eingegangen. Schließlich soll mithilfe der jeweiligen Theorie das Handeln der Türkei erklärt werden. Die Region um das östliche Mittelmeer beherbergte Reiche wie das Osmanische oder Byzantinische Reich. Das Meer selbst war es, welches die Region sowohl geographisch, politisch als auch kulturell prägte. Schon immer war es ein Wirtschaftsraum als auch ein Schauplatz für Kriege und Schlachten. Auch heute spielt das Meer und dessen wirtschaftliche Nutzung eine tragende Rolle in Konflikten: Im Sommer 2020 wurde die Ägäis (nordöstlicher Teil des Mittelmeers) Austragungsort des Konfliktes zwischen dem EU-Mitglied Griechenland und der „Nahtstelle zwischen westlicher und islamischer Welt“, der Türkei. Im Konflikt um Grenzfestlegung und der Aufteilung der Gewässer liefern sich die beiden Akteure einen Schlagabtausch, der teilweise sogar kurz vor einer militärischen Eskalation stand.

Wenn von Zypern die Rede ist, so assoziiert man damit in der Regel den seit mehr als vierzig Jahren bestehenden Zypernkonflikt sowie die anhaltende Teilung der Insel. Neben anderen Differenzen und Streitfragen handelt es sich um einen der elementarsten und zugleich auch einen der ältesten noch bestehenden Konflikte zwischen Griechenland und der Türkei. Der Zypernkonflikt ist aber auch hinsichtlich seiner Komplexität beachtenswert, da es sich um einen Zwei-Ebenen-Konflikt handelt: zum einen zwischen griechischen und türkischen Zyprioten, zum anderen zwischen den Mutterländern Griechenland und der Türkei. Man unterscheidet infolgedessen konkret zwischen dem Konflikt auf Zypern und dem Konflikt um Zypern. Neben den Konfliktbeteiligten ist aber auch die Konfliktentwicklung zu beachten. Aus einem „einfachen Konflikt“ zwischen zwei Volksgruppen hat sich ein Konflikt zwischen der Türkei und Griechenland herausgebildet. Der Zypernkonflikt wurde somit Teil des grundsätzlichen Konflikts zwischen den beiden Staaten. Die Forschung beschäftigt sich zumeist mit den Ursachen, dem Verlauf, aber auch mit den Krisenpotentialen des Zypernkonflikts, zum Teil werden auch die auf Zypern entstandenen Identitäten für eine Erklärung der Genese des Konflikts herangezogen. Vor dem Hintergrund der Relevanz des Zypernkonflikts für die griechisch-türkischen Beziehungen intendiert diese Hausarbeit zu ergründen, wie sich aufgrund eines konstruktivistischen Erklärungsmodells die griechische Zypernpolitik gegenüber der Türkei im Zeitraum vor und nach dem EU-Beitritt der Insel 2004 erklären lässt. Die griechisch-türkischen Beziehungen sind, wie es dem Wesen sozialer Beziehungen entspricht, konstruiert, weshalb es für die folgende Untersuchung naheliegt, mit einem konstruktivistischen Erklärungsmodell zu arbeiten. Der Analysefokus liegt auf den Ursachen für die Herausbildung einer bestimmten griechischen Verhaltensnorm sowie auf den konkreten Verhaltensausprägungen auf Grundlage dieser Norm und der Entwicklung des griechischen Verhaltens über Zeit gegenüber der Türkei im Hinblick auf Zypern.

The concept of authoritarianism, first defined in The Authoritarian Personality published in 1950, has since been treated in a bewildering array of studies that have explored both its narrow psychological meaning and its broader social implications. In this volume, authors John P. Kirscht and Ronald C. Dillehay have provided a much-needed review of this growing subject, summarizing and evaluating about 260 studies that have appeared to date. Kirscht and Dillehay differentiate between the psychological and the sociological approach to authoritarianism, tracing the historical development of both schools of thought. They also outline three major views of authoritarianism: as antecedent to certain types of behavior (for example, ethnic prejudice), as the consequence of other variables (such as child rearing practices), or as a correlate of yet other processes(e.g. alienation); these views, in turn, suggest a variety of theoretical and methodological issues. The authors review, in addition, the multitudes of beliefs and behaviors thought to vary with authoritarianism, examining the validity of these relationships in empirical research. While the authors do not attempt to reformulate or redefine authoritarianism, they point up avenues for future research and single out significant research findings which are likely to offer the firmest ground for development.
