Kooperationsfähigkeit, Flexibilität und Selbständigkeit gewinnen nicht nur zunehmend an Bedeutung, sondern stellen Schlüsselkompetenzen sowohl für Lehrende als auch für Lernende dar. Durch die Einführung der Gemeinschaftsschule hat ein Wandel der Schüler- und Lehrerrolle an allen Schulformen begonnen: den Lernenden wird von Beginn an mehr Eigenverantwortung und Selbststeuerung zugeschrieben. Des Weiteren wird aktive Mitarbeit vorausgesetzt, um den Unterricht produktiv zu gestalten. Für die Lehrenden bedeutet dies, dass sich neue soziale Interaktionsformen im Schulalltag manifestieren. Kooperative Arbeitsweisen waren recht unbekannt oder wurden gänzlich ignoriert (Johnson & Johnson, 2008:16). Durch den gesellschaftlichen Wandel gewannen auch Gruppenarbeiten an Anerkennung, sodass sie sich zu einem beliebten Element in den neueren Unterrichtsformen entwickeln konnten. Die Idee des gemeinsamen Lernens wurde unter der Bezeichnung "Kooperatives Lernen" neu aufgegriffen und weiterentwickelt. Seinen Anfang fand das angloamerikanische Cooperative Learning durch die Gestalt- und Gruppentherapie. Man ging von der Annahme aus, dass die gegenseitige Abhängigkeit der Gruppenmitglieder entscheidend ist im Hinblick auf die Gruppendynamik und der jeweiligen Zielvorgabe. Die vorliegende Arbeit setzt sich mit dem Themenfeld des kooperativen Lernens im Schulunterricht auseinander. Kapitel 2 beinhaltet die Fragestellung, wieso die Verwendung kooperativer Lernformen im Unterricht eine Notwendigkeit darstellt und legt dar, welche gesellschaftlichen Veränderungen den Bedarf an neuen Lehrformen steigern. Zu diesem Zweck wird in den folgenden Kapitel 3 und 4 auf die Fragestellung eingegangen, was allgemein unter dem Begriff "kooperatives Lernen" zu verstehen ist. Darüber hinaus werden Grundgedanken und Prinzipien dieser Lernform aufgezeigt und näher beleuchtet. Entwicklungspsychologische Hintergründe, die bei der Betrachtung kooperativen Lernens von großer Bedeutung sind, werden in Kapitel 5 erläutert. Kapitel 6 umfasst die Zielsetzung dieser Lernform. Eine neue Unterrichtsform fordert auch Veränderungen im Klassenzimmer. Kap.7 geht daher auf die vier grundlegenden Veränderungen ein und definiert die neuen Rollen der Beteiligten.
