The poet-saint Raskhān lived in the 16th/17th century C.E. Story has it he was born as a Muslim, but later converted to Krishnaism. This conversion took place because at first he was infatuated by a young boy, but later on transformed his love to a mystical devotion to the young cowherd god Krishna. Due to this conversion his mystical poems have a particular place in the bhakti cult of Northern-India. Raskhān's songs rank among the finest of Krishna poetry in Brajbhāṣā, the language the young god Krishna is supposed to have spoken when he lived on earth. It is the language of the pilgrimage site of Brindavan in Northern-India. Raskhān’s songs are on the lips of many devotees up to the present day.

Miracles And Science written by Nora Franklin and has been published by Publifye AS this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2025-02-14 with Religion categories.

Miracles and Science investigates miracle claims through both historical and scientific lenses. It examines how various religions present miracles and explores scientific methodologies used to investigate them. The book emphasizes the importance of understanding the historical context of miracle claims, recognizing that social, cultural, and political factors influence these narratives. For example, understanding the practices of a specific religion can illuminate the interpretation of its miracles. The book presents an interdisciplinary approach, combining historical analysis with scientific investigation. It avoids taking a definitive stance on the existence of miracles, focusing instead on presenting evidence and diverse perspectives. Starting with definitions of miracles, the book progresses through analyses of miracle claims across religions like Christianity, Islam, Hinduism, and Buddhism, followed by scientific analyses of phenomena such as miraculous healings. It then explores the implications from both religious and scientific angles, fostering a better understanding of differing worldviews by connecting to fields like history, sociology, psychology, and philosophy.

Krishna—widely venerated and adored in the Hindu tradition—is a deity of many aspects. An ancient manifestation of the Supreme God Vishnu, or the Godhead itself, Krishna is the bringer of Yoga philosophy and the creator of the universe, the destroyer of evil tyrants, and the hero of the epic Mahabharata. He is also described in classical Sanskrit texts as having human characteristics and enjoying very human pursuits: Krishna is the butter thief, cowherd, philanderer, and flute player. Yet even these playful depictions are based upon descriptions found in the Sanskrit canon, and mostly reflect familiar, classical Pan-Indian images. In this book, contributors examine the alternative, or unconventional, Krishnas, offering examples from more localized Krishna traditions found in different regions among various ethnic groups, vernacular language traditions, and remote branches of Indian religions. These wide-ranging, alternative visions of Krishna include the Tantric Krishna of Bengal, Krishna in urban women's rituals, Krishna as monogamous husband and younger brother in Braj, Krishna in Jainism, Krishna in Marathi tradition, Krishna in South India, and the Krishna of nineteenth-century reformed Hinduism.

Hinduism In The Modern World written by Brian A. Hatcher and has been published by Routledge this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2015-10-05 with Religion categories.

Hinduism in the Modern World presents a new and unprecedented attempt to survey the nature, range, and significance of modern and contemporary Hinduism in South Asia and the global diaspora. Organized to reflect the direction of recent scholarly research, this volume breaks with earlier texts on this subject by seeking to overcome a misleading dichotomy between an elite, intellectualist "modern" Hinduism and the rest of what has so often been misleadingly termed "traditional" or "popular" Hinduism. Without neglecting the significance of modern reformist visions of Hinduism, this book reconceptualizes the meaning of "modern Hinduism" both by expanding its content and by situating its expression within a larger framework of history, ethnography, and contemporary critical theory. This volume equips undergraduate readers with the tools necessary to appreciate the richness and diversity of Hinduism as it has developed during the past two centuries.
