This is the first full biography of one of the greatest Roman Catholic theologians of the last century. Schillebeeckx is alive and still writing important work. He is a Dutch Dominican and theological genius whose influence on the Second Vatican Council was profound. He was regarded as the theological voice of progressive Catholicism. But in 1968 the Vatican Authorities started an investigation into his orthodoxy and a great many Catholics also felt that this was an attack on them. Borgman puts Schillebeeckx in his context, creating a new perspective on his ultimate significance for the church and for the development of theology.

In this book some 25 scholars focus on the relationship between religion, children's literature and modernity in Western Europe since the Enlightenment (c. 1750). They examine various aspects of the phenomenon of children's literature, such as types of texts, age of readers, position of authors, design and illustration. The role of religion in giving meaning both in a substantive sense as well as through the institutionalised churches is studied from an interdenominational point of view (Judaism, Roman Catholicism, Protestantism and Anglicanism). Finally, the contribution of pedagogy and child psychology in the interaction between modernity, religion and children's literature is also discussed.Various articles give a broad overview of the tensions between aesthetics and ethics and the demand for cultural autonomy in the development of children's literature. Children's bibles and missionary stories played an important part in the growing diversification of children's literature, as did the publication of illustrated reviews for children. Remarkable differences are highlighted in the involvement of religious societies and institutions, episcopally approved publishing houses and supervisory bodies in the publication, distribution and supervision of children's literature. This volume adopts a comparative approach in exploring the underlying religious, ideological and cultural dimensions of children's literature in modern society.)

Other Capitals Of The Nineteenth Century written by Richard Hibbitt and has been published by Springer this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2017-10-17 with Literary Criticism categories.

This book rethinks the notion of nineteenth-century capital(s) from geographical, economic and symbolic perspectives, proposing an alternative mapping of the field by focusing on different loci and sources of capital. Walter Benjamin’s essay ‘Paris, the Capital of the Nineteenth Century’ identifies the French capital as the epitome of modernity. His consideration of how literature enters the market as a commodity is developed by Pierre Bourdieu in The Rules of Art, which discusses the late nineteenth-century French literary field in terms of both economic and symbolic capital. This spatio-temporal approach to culture also underpins Pascale Casanova’s The World Republic of Letters, which posits Paris as the capital of the transnational literary field and Greenwich Meridian of literature. This volume brings together essays by specialists on Bayreuth, Brussels, Constantinople, Coppet, Marseilles, Melbourne, Munich and St Petersburg, as well as reflections on local-colour literature, the Symbolist novel and the strategies behind literary translation. Offering a series of innovative perspectives on nineteenth-century capital and cultural output, this study will be invaluable for all upper-levels students and scholars of modern European literature, culture and society.

Secularization And Social Integration written by Karel Dobbelaere and has been published by Leuven University Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 1998 with Religion categories.

At the end of the 1997-1998 academic year, Professor Karel Dobbelaere was awarded emeritus status by the Catholic University of Leuven. For four decades, he contributed and gave shape to academic sociology in Flanders. During this period, he showed students how to find their way into general sociology and sociological research at the Catholic University of Leuven and the University of Antwerp. At the same time, he brought the sociology of religion in Flanders to maturity. With indefatigable dedication, he defended the autonomy and the necessity of a scientific, empirical study of churches, denominations, sects, and religious beliefs from a sociological perspective. Karel Dobbelaere managed to reconcile harmoniously a permanent presence in Flemish sociology with an international scientific career. He enjoys great recognition within the world community of sociologists of religion and within its representative organization.

The main objectives of the series correspond to those of the journal Communications: The European Journal of Communication Research, also published by Mouton de Gruyter. The discipline of communication science is concerned with investigation of the structure and function of mass communication processes and their impact on society and social groups. How these processes have an impact on values, knowledge, opinions and behaviour of individuals similarly constitutes an important area of concern for the discipline. The Communications Monograph series emphasizes these concerns of the discipline through publication of books taking a European social science perspective. Inasmuch as mass communication cannot be studied distinct from other modes of communication, the purpose of the Series is to publish material covering other communication forms - intrapersonal, interpersonal, organizational - in addition to mass communication. In other words, the Communications Monograph series encompasses the entire field of communication science as its domain of interest. Special attention is addressed to the publication of titles that serve as main texts for academic courses and focus on such topics as communication theory and methodology, mass media and production of mediated messages, media use, reception processes, and media impact, political and marketing communication, advertising, public relations and propaganda, media policy, new media technologies and electronic networks, media history and media development.
