Et plus encore lorsqu'il y pénètre pour en explorer les mécanismes, en brouiller les frontières, et met ainsi sa propre pratique à l'épreuve ? Valeurs croisées explore ce qui est commun à l'activité artistique et à celle de l'entreprise, et qui les différencie tout autant : le travail, créateur de valeur. Le geste artistique a toujours fait écho aux mutations du travail, dont il interroge le sens et suggère d'autres formes. Aujourd'hui, dans un monde rationalisé, où même l'éducation et la culture doivent être rentables, les artistes questionnent les logiques de productivité et d'aliénation, la perte de sens et la place de l'imaginaire. Soixante-deux artistes ont été réunis autour de cette problématique, le plus souvent avec des œuvres inédites. Certains ont effectué des résidences en entreprise, confrontant leur démarche à l'activité des salariés – une expérience in vivo qui amène à reconsidérer le rôle de l'artiste, le statut de ses créations et la place du sujet dans le monde du travail. Répondre à des offres d'emploi par des lettres de nonmotivation, soustraire un geste à sa vocation fonctionnelle, faire évaluer les performances de son art, susciter la dépense improductive, autant de propositions qui nous invitent, parmi d'autres, à aiguiser notre regard sur l'algèbre complexe qui relie le travail à sa valeur.

This is the first book to focus on Helhesten (The Hell-Horse), an avant-garde artists’ collective active during the Nazi occupation of Denmark and one of the few tangible connections between radical European art groups from the 1920s to the 1960s. The Danes’ deliberately unskilled painterly abstraction, embrace of the tradition of dansk folkelighed (the popular) and its iterations of egalitarianism and consensus reform, called for the political relevance of art and interrogated the ideologies underlying culture itself. The group’s cultural activism presents an alternative trajectory of continuity, which challenges the customary view of World War II as a moment of artistic rupture.
