Abseits bloß stilistischer Moden hat Kurt Ackermann (*1928) seit den 1950er Jahren vielbeachtete und oft mit Preisen ausgezeichnete Bauten geschaffen, die durch Prägnanz und Funktionalität überzeugen. Zu den bekanntesten Projekten Ackermanns, der als Professor für Entwerfen und Konstruieren an der Universität Stuttgart (1974-1993) eine enge Zusammenarbeit zwischen Architekt und Bauingenieur postulierte, gehört das Eislaufzelt im Olympiapark in München und die Messehalle für die Expo 2000 in Hannover.
