Il Regio Istituto delle Signore Montalve alla Quiete nasce a cavallo tra il 1885 ed il 1886, in seguito all’unione delle due congregazioni fondate dalla venerabile Eleonora Ramirez de Montalvo: le e le Montalve alla Quiete. Da loro eredita i principi e l’azione educativa svolta per oltre due secoli, portandoli alle soglie del nuovo millennio. In questo inventario analitico vengono descritte le carte prodotte dal nuovo Istituto. Il nucleo relativo all’educazione femminile è solo una delle materie che questo archivio può offrire: le trasformazioni architettoniche e sociali, le due guerre mondiali, usi e costumi della popolazione danno conto del vasto campo di ricerca offerto e del quadro storico toscano che le carte disegnano in maniera ben definita.

Eleonora Ramirez de Montalvo è tra le figure storiche più importanti nell’ambito dell’assistenza e dell’educazione femminile nel corso del XVII secolo. È la fondatrice di due congregazioni laicali: le Minime Ancille della Divina Incarnazione (1647) e le Minime Ancille della Santissima Trinità (1650). Questo volume elenca e descrive in maniera analitica le carte prodotte e conservate dalla seconda di queste comunità, conosciuta con il nome di Montalve alla Quiete, che per oltre due secoli ha svolto un’intensa attività ed ha esercitato una notevole influenza nel panorama toscano. Lo studio di questo archivio fornisce un ventaglio d’informazioni unico sia sulle vicende economiche e politiche del tempo sia sui rapporti intrattenuti dalla comunità delle Montalve con la società per l’accrescimento del proprio prestigio e patrimonio.
