Institutional Critique And After written by Southern California Consortium of Art Schools and has been published by Jrp Ringier this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2006 with Art categories.

« Institutional critique and after explores the history and contemporary reassessment of the Institutional Critique movement lauched in the late 1960s, redeveloped in the 1980s, and vigorously reoriented in recent years to address issues such as globalization. In this publication, the histories, theories, diverse locations, and different kinds of institutional alternative space are investigated, looking at traditional forms of art but also at installation, performance, new media practices, and cultural activism. Its central questions turn on the critical potential of art (and institutions) and whether–and if so how–they can stimulate social or political change. »--

Art As Experience Of The Living Body L Art Comme Experience Du Corps Vivant written by Christine Vial Kayser and has been published by Vernon Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2024-01-23 with Art categories.

This book analyses the dynamic relationship between art and subjective consciousness, following a phenomenological, pragmatist and enactive approach. It brings out a new approach to the role of the body in art, not as a speculative object or symbolic material but as the living source of the imaginary. It contains theoretical contributions and case studies taken from various artistic practices (visual art, theatre, literature and music), Western and Eastern, the latter concerning China, India and Japan. These contributions allow us to nourish the debate on embodied cognition and aesthetics, using theory–philosophy, art history, neuroscience–and the authors’ personal experience as artists or spectators. According to the Husserlian method of “reduction” and pragmatist introspection, they postulate that listening to bodily sensations–cramps, heartbeats, impulsive movements, eye orientation–can unravel the thread of subconscious experience, both active and affective, that emerge in the encounter between a subject and an artwork, an encounter which, following John Dewey, we deem to be a case study for life in general.

The Institutions Of Art written by Peter B_rger and has been published by U of Nebraska Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 1992-01-01 with Literary Criticism categories.

Art has been an umbrella term for poetry; music, dance, sculpture painting, and architecture since the end of the eighteenth century, when the bourgeoisie were establishing their hegemony over culture and politics in Germany, labor was becoming more clearly divided, and religion was losing its unifying force. Art became a broad and separate entity as the expectations and experience of it changed. The Institutions of Art concentrates on German and French literature in illustrating the formation of aesthetic autonomy and the divergence between high and popular culture. Peter B_rger builds on his earlier Theory of the Avant-Garde (1984), pushing further into key theoretical questions about art and society. Christa B_rger extends the critique to the history of the novel, focusing on Goethe and Kleist. Looking backward to feudalism and forward to our century, the authors show how the function of art has changed along with the criteria for its production and evaluation.

Academies And Schools Of Art In Latin America written by Oscar E. Vázquez and has been published by Routledge this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2020-05-28 with Art categories.

This edited volume’s chief aim is to bring together, in an English-language source, the principal histories and narratives of some of the most significant academies and national schools of art in South America, Mexico, and the Caribbean, from the late 18th to the early 20th centuries. The book highlights not only issues shared by Latin American academies of art but also those that differentiate them from their European counterparts. Authors examine issues including statutes, the influence of workshops and guilds, the importance of patronage, discourses of race and ethnicity in visual pedagogy, and European models versus the quest for national schools. It also offers first-time English translations of many foundational documents from several significant academies and schools. This book will be of interest to scholars in art history, Latin American and Hispanic studies, and modern visual cultures.
