Se trata de un estudio que cuenta con tres partes claramente diferenciadas: Una primera parte en la que se ha desarrollado un investigación sobre la edición electrónica universitaria en el ámbito internacional con objeto de conocer las principales tendencias y experiencias que se están desarrollando en los diferentes países del mundo, así como las implicaciones futuras que las mismas pueden tener en la producción, distribución y recepción de la obras académicas universitarias. Una segunda parte con un estudio de campo en el que se han abordado varios aspectos que el grupo entiende que están directamente implicados en la edición universitaria. En primer lugar un análisis de las características de la información disponible en sus páginas web, desde la más formal como puede ser la existencia de referencias a los servicios desde las páginas principales de la universidad, o de un directorio de personal en las páginas específicas de los servicios, a los más estructurales como los sistemas de búsqueda, la edición electrónica o las características de la difusión. En segundo lugar se ha efectuado un análisis de la presencia de los servicios de bibliotecas universitarios en las redes sociales, Twitter y Facebook, habida cuenta de la importancia cada vez mayor que estos cobran para una adecuada visibilidad de los mismos. Y en tercer lugar se ha desarrollado una investigación sobre la presencia de las obras universitarias en las bibliografías recomendadas de los profesores y sobre las características de los servicios de bibliografías recomendadas, que también cuentan cada vez con mayor incidencia en las opciones de consulta y compra de materiales por parte de los universitarios.

La transformación experimentada por la industria editorial y los sistemas de información y comunicación en los últimos años, con una intensa migración de lo analógico a lo digital, nos obliga a repensar la forma en que concebimos los documentos, la lectura y la escritura, la creación y la investigación, tanto desde una perspectiva científica como desde una perspectiva cultural. Las tecnologías digitales están articulando nuevas mediaciones, que es preciso analizar para efectuar un diagnóstico de la situación actual y verificar los cambios experimentados en nuestras prácticas. El mundo electrónico provoca una triple ruptura: instaura una nueva técnica de difusión de la escritura, propicia una nueva relación con los textos e impone a estos una nueva forma de inscripción. Además, obliga al lector a prescindir de las herencias y tradiciones que lo han constituido como receptor, ya que el mundo electrónico ya no utiliza la imprenta, ignora el «libro unitario» y es ajeno a la materialidad del «códex». Es, al mismo tiempo, una revolución de la modalidad técnica de la reproducción de lo escrito, una revolución de la percepción de las entidades textuales y una revolución de las estructuras y formas más fundamentales de los soportes de la cultura escrita. Por otra parte el texto electrónico rompe la linealidad argumentativa propia del discurso impreso, sustituida por una lógica propia del hipertexto. En este sentido se produce igualmente una mutación epistemológica provocada por la transformación de los sistemas de construcción y acreditación del discurso científico, confiado en muchos casos a la iniciativa del lector. Al mismo tiempo la permeabilidad del texto electrónico, en el cual la intervención de los lectores es cada vez más importante, introduce una variable determinante en los conceptos de autoría y de propiedad intelectual.

The evolution and proliferation of plain and predominantly wheel-made pottery presents a characteristic feature of the societies of the Near East and Eastern Mediterranean since the fourth millennium B.C.
