Cosa accomuna la vicenda planetaria della pandemia che stiamo attraversando e i numerosi eventi di protesta che, da qualche anno a questa parte, sono stati portati avanti con coraggio e determinazione da Greta Thunberg e dai Fridays for Future? Quali le difficoltà di pensarla in modo radicale? Con quali strumenti e attraverso quali modelli? Queste sono le sfide che si impongono alle nostre comunità politiche e devono essere da esse accolte e affrontate. Questo libro offre un agile percorso di riflessione sul tema senza, però, aggirarne le difficoltà teoriche e pratiche. Assieme alla presentazione delle questioni di fondo, il volume delinea anche alcune traiettorie di risposta, insistendo sulla necessità di risintonizzare le nostre istituzioni democratiche sul tema dell’appello radicale dei senza voce per eccellenza: le generazioni future. This book aims to explore technology solutions and systems to help people in remote areas in order to improve medical care. Access to health care services is critical to good health, but residents of remote areas face a variety of access barriers. The obstacles faced by health care providers and patients in rural areas are very different from those in urban areas. This could be caused by economic factors, cultural and social differences, educational deficiencies, lack of recognition by legislators, and the sheer isolation of living in inland areas, all of which conspire to create health care disparities and hinder people living in inland areas in their struggle to lead normal, healthy lives. Based on available analyses, further progress is needed to promote appropriateness of care, address geographic imbalances in health care use, and prevent the spread of risk factors including chronic diseases and regular health problems. To eradicate these problems, it is essential to develop a telemedicine system with ICT integration that will help patients in inland areas by using contemporary technologies: it would thus be possible for patients to meet their goals using these systems even without the presence of a physician since authenticated prescriptions are generated by doctors and can be transmitted to patients electronically. The volume will contain a number of ideas from researchers who are already working to find solutions and will give insights into exploring innovative methods and new systems developed.

This open access book offers a multidisciplinary and comprehensive perspective regarding the immediate and long-term effects of the Covid-19 pandemic on coworking spaces in the European Region. The current pandemic has imposed several effects on work and spaces for work. Some are immediate effects and will last for a short time (such as the closing down of the space), some will last longer (namely, the reorganisation of the space to meet the physical distancing), and some will stay for a long time (remote working and hybrid working). Although the literature on coworking spaces and the effects of the pandemic is growing fast, empirical studies are yet limited. Within this context, this book seeks a twofold aim: (i) to contribute to the fast-growing literature on coworking space and their effects at different scales; (ii) to present a multidisciplinary perspective about the effects of the yet-lasting Corona-pandemic effects on the patterns of remote working and consequently on coworking spaces, as the most diffused form of new working spaces.

In 1972, the US Navy installed a base for nuclear submarines in the Archipelago of La Maddalena off the northeastern shore of Sardinia, Italy. In response, Italy established a radiation surveillance program to monitor the impact of the base on the environment and public health. In the first systematic study of nuclear expertise in Italy, Davide Orsini focuses on the ensuing technopolitical disputes concerning the role and safety of US nuclear submarines in the Mediterranean Sea from the Cold War period to the closure of the naval base in 2008. His book follows the struggles of different groups—including local residents of the archipelago, US Navy personnel, local administrators, Italian experts, and politicians—to define nuclear submarines as either imperceptible threats, much like radiocontamination, or efficient machines at the service of liberty and freedom. Unlike inland nuclear power plants, vividly present and visible with their tall cooling towers and reactor containers, the mobility and invisibility of submarines contributed to an ambivalence about their nature, perpetuating the idea of nuclear exceptionalism. In Italy, they symbolized objects in constant motion, easily removable at the first sign of potential harm. Orsini demonstrates how these mobile sources of hazard posed special challenges for both expert assessments and public understandings of risk, and in contexts outside the Anglo-Saxon world, where unique social power dynamics held sway over the outcome of technopolitical controversies.
