Le indagini del tenente Roversi Febbraio 1963. Un giornalista torinese, Francesco Gallo, viene trovato privo di vita alle pendici di Monte Forte, nella Nurra. Le indagini condotte dal tenente Roversi sembrano indicare che il movente sia legato a un reportage che il giornalista stava conducendo nella zona e abbia a che fare con le tensioni per la crisi mineraria in atto in tutta l’isola. A capo dell’inchiesta subentra il Nucleo Investigativo Regionale di Cagliari, mentre il tenente, estromesso dal caso, chiede e ottiene di occuparsi di un’indagine in apparenza secondaria: la misteriosa sparizione di un pittore dilettante, Carmine Fusco, ex galeotto stabilitosi dopo la scarcerazione in un vecchio cuile abbandonato della Nurra, a cui anche il giornalista aveva dedicato un’attenzione crescente prima di essere ucciso. Convinto dell’esistenza di un legame fra i due casi, Roversi, contro il parere dei suoi superiori e muovendosi al limite di regolamenti e ordini ricevuti, dovrà fare ricorso a tutta la sua astuzia per costringere alla fine l’assassino a uscire allo scoperto e indurlo a confessare. Una nuova indagine per il tenente Roversi. Due inchieste apparentemente non collegate fra loro, le asperità della Sardegna e un caso molto complesso.
