Leonardo Manigrasso has made use of the most up-to-date tools made available by stylistic criticism and translation studies to offer a series of intense "debates" and comparisons between the greatest poets-translators born in Italy between the 1910s and the early 1920s. The choice to cross multiple versions of the same source text allows the reader to verify the multiple ways of implicit reading and rewriting during the translation process, establishing distances, documenting unexpected dialogues, exposing the bonds between the translated work and the "creative" work of each author. The interaction between different and remarkable textual features has the goal of reconstructing a fundamental chapter in the history of twentieth century poetry, from the birth of hermetic koinè to a notion of translating as a predominantly empirical and individual process.

Dalla sfera politica, frustrata e contaminata dal suo decadimento, alla filosofia morale, «Elogio della mitezza» segna come nessun altro libro gli ultimi anni di Norberto Bobbio, e il celebre saggio che dà il titolo all’opera ne rappresenta il testamento civico. La mitezza, che pure Bobbio dichiara di non saper praticare, si presta a riassumere alcuni tratti fra i più ammirati del suo carattere e della sua riflessione teorica: i tratti di un pensatore intimamente democratico, un uomo semplice e ancorato alla solidità dei propri valori e argomenti, sempre conscio del dualismo insuperabile tra mondo dei fatti e mondo delle idee. L'ospitalità linguistica è una posizione tanto etica quanto epistemologica nei confronti dei problemi che presenta il compito di tradurre un testo letterario. Si tratta di permettere che un testo apra spazi nuovi nelle lingue e culture che lo accolgono, per farle risonare in maniera inedita. Il teorico Antoine Berman, in sintonia con la filosofia ermeneutica di Paul Ricoeur, ha delineato i principi e le griglie metodologiche di questa teoria. Il presente volume rende suoi quei principi e percorsi analitici per verificare la loro operatività in un lavoro di traduttologia comparata. Il corpus è dato dalle traduzioni dei racconti di El Llano en llamas di Juan Rulfo al tedesco, inglese, danese e italiano. Si identificano i processi di trasformazione - linguistica e culturale - ai quali i traduttori devono cedere nell'affrontare un'opera di lingua e pensiero stranieri. L'analisi si incentra quindi sulla descrizione delle negoziazioni necessarie per trasporre lo stile ed i micro-universi testuali di Rulfo alle quattro lingue di arrivo. Il caso dei racconti di Rulfo, che più che altri testi richiedono la partecipazione attiva del lettore nel processo di interpretazione, risulta ideale per illustrare in che modo la traduzione può essere al contempo accesso e non-accesso al testo straniero.
