This book offers a detailed and fascinating picture of the astonishing astronomical knowledge on which the Roman calendar, traditionally attributed to the king Numa Pompilius (reign 715-673 B.C.), was based. This knowledge, of Mesopotamian origins, related mainly to the planetary movements and to the occurrence of eclipses in the solar system. Questo libro affronta un autentico tabu scientifico, una questione che, stando alla ricerca attuale, non dovrebbe nemmeno venir posta: quella dell'origine degli etruschia L'epistemologia contemporanea permette - a mio parere - di illuminare la configurazione assunta sul tema dalla dottrina: con Thomas S. Kuhn, che ha mostrato come le scienze evolvano attraverso quella che egli definisce una tensione essenziale tra tradizione e cambiamento, si riconoscera nella formulazione iniziale del primato della formazione sull'origine uno stadio d'innovazione scientifica ben caratterizzato, che consente di superare una situazione in cui le discussioni si bloccano e si impantanano. In seguito, nel successo incontrato da questo punto di vista nei decenni successivi, si identifichera la trasformazione di una teoria in paradigma, tramite un consenso che si e venuto consolidando all'interno della comunita scientifica. E alla fine si osserva che la vulgata, divenuta dogma, gioca adesso il ruolo di un ostacolo epistemologico, mentre ogni teoria contraria viene considerata a priori come non legittima, e perfino impossibilea Negli ultimi decenni la ricerca sulle origini di Roma ha compiuto il cammino che porta dal mito alla storia, arrivando alla constatazione, ieri del tutto impensabile, che gli antichi racconti contengono almeno una parte di realta. Perche quello che e verita al di qua del Tevere dovrebbe restare per sempre un errore al di la? Possa il libro di Leonardo Magini aprire una nuova tappa nella grande e lunga storia dell'etruscologia!: dall'Introduzione di Alexandre Grandazzi, Professore all'Universita di Parigi IV-Sorbonne. Da piu di trent'anni Leonardo Magini si occupa di lingua e cultura etrusca, e poi di astronomia etrusco-romana. Su quest'ultimo argomento tra il 1996 e il 2003 ha pubblicato tre saggi presso la casa editrice L'Erma di Bretschneider; con Astronomia etrusco-romana Magini ha ricostruito la sapienza astronomica di origine babilonese nascosta nei miti, nei riti e nelle cadenze delle festivita dell'antico calendario romano.
