Edizione integraleNel 1901, un anno dopo la pubblicazione de L'interpretazione dei sogni, Freud decise di riadattare le sue teorie sui meccanismi della vita onirica per una fruizione più estesa e indifferenziata e concepì pertanto questo breve compendio, di agile e scorrevole lettura, per divulgare anche tra i non specialisti gli esiti dei suoi studi. A tale scopo intese soprattutto sfumare e ammorbidire il senso delle connessioni scientifiche più complesse e dei modelli teorici più articolati e astratti, avvalendosi di una impostazione senz'altro più semplice e schematica e di una concezione espositiva comunque chiara ed esaustiva. Sigmund Freudpadre della psicoanalisi, nacque a Freiberg, in Moravia, nel 1856. Autore di opere di capitale importanza (tra le quali citeremo soltanto L’interpretazione dei sogni, Tre saggi sulla sessualità, Totem e tabù, Psicopatologia della vita quotidiana, Al di là del principio del piacere), insegnò all’università di Vienna dal 1920 fino al 1938, quando fu costretto dai nazisti ad abbandonare l’Austria. Morì l’anno seguente a Londra, dove si era rifugiato insieme con la famiglia. Di Freud la Newton Compton ha pubblicato molti saggi in volumi singoli, la raccolta Opere 1886/1921 e L’interpretazione dei sogni - Tre saggi sulla sessualità - Introduzione alla psicoanalisi.
