On verra également que la loi du 21 mars 1884 explique certaines faiblesses du syndicat français contemporain, déjà contenues en germe dans la législation de la Constituante de 1791. Cet ouvrage est aussi destiné à accroître la compréhension des modes de construction des catégories juridiques. Il a l'ambition, en retraçant l'itinéraire du cadre juridique du syndicat, de contribuer à l'émergence d'une sociologie historique du droit.

Léon Harmel is a penetrating study of the French industrialist who from 1870 to 1914 advanced social Catholic and Christian democratic movements by improving factory conditions and empowering workers.
