This book analyses the relationship between Fascist Italy and the League of Nations in the interwar years. By uncovering the traces of those Italians working in the organization, this volume investigates Fascist Italy’s membership of the League, and explores the dynamics between nationalism and internationalism in Geneva. The relationship between Fascist Italy and the League of Nations was contradictory, shifting from active collaboration to open disagreement. Previous literature has not reflected this oscillation in policy, focusing disproportionally on the problems Italy caused for the League, such as the Ethiopian crisis. Yet Fascist Italy remained in the League for more than fifteen years, and was the third largest power within the institution. How did a Fascist dictatorship fit into an organization espousing principles of liberal internationalism? By using archival sources from four countries, Elisabetta Tollardo shows that Fascist Italy was much more concerned with, and involved in, the League than currently believed.

Il presente libro si prefigge l’obiettivo di contribuire al chiarimento delle modalità operative utilizzate dall’attuale sistema giuridico comunitario europeo per la tutela del diritto all’unità familiare, e in particolare al diritto al ricongiungimento familiare dell’individuo. Nel presente libro viene esaminata la tutela della famiglia e i ricongiungimenti familiari nell’ambito delle Convenzioni internazionali a protezione dei diritti umani; il ricongiungimento familiare e la tutela della vita familiare nello spazio giuridico; diritti dei familiari del cittadino europeo nella normativa e nella giurisprudenza europea; la disciplina contenuta nelle direttive 2004/38/CE e 2003/86/CE; il rapporto tra diritto europeo al ricongiungimento familiare e il rispetto delle norme nazionali in materia di ingresso e di soggiorno degli stranieri. Una parte importante in questo lavoro viene dedicato al diritto al ricongiungimento familiare nel diritto interno, ossia la tutela dell’unita familiare in Italia a norma del Testo Unico immigrazione 296/98. The present book is a contribution to the clarification of operating procedures used by the current legislation of the European Union for the protection of the right to family unity, and in particular the right to family reunification of individuals. From a formal point of view the right to family reunification, enjoys international and national protection. This book examines the protection of family life and family reunification within the framework of international conventions on human rights, family reunification and the protection of family life in the area of justice, the rights of family members of European citizens in the EU legislation and the case law; the rules set by the Directives 2004/38/EC and 2003/86/EC, the relationship between EU legislation on family reunification and the respect of national rules governing the entry and residence of migrants. An important part of this work is dedicated to the right of family reunification in the national law, namely to protect the family unit in Italy in accordance with the Consolidated immigration no. 296/98.

This essay regards the early stages of the debate on Disarmament at the end of World War I, when the international community intended to limit countries’ armaments (and expenses) according to a widespread sentiment in public opinion, after a huge moral and physical devastation. In 1918 some draft projects of the League of Nations Covenant were elaborated by the Great Powers and the original texts demonstrate the initial absence of the matter, but as the brainstorming continued, the articles regarding the way to disarm appeared even more pregnant. The question at stake concerned the reduction of armaments to the lowest point consistent with national defence and the fulfilment of international obligations, the abolition of the mandatory conscription, the prohibition to earn private profits from the manufacture of arms, the control of arms trafficking, and the ‘full and frank’ publicity of military programs. In 1919, during the Paris Peace Conference, motivated men worked to create an organization (forerunner of the United Nations) with the aim of avoiding future wars. In the final version of the Covenant some articles to realize Disarmament were present and a specific ‘Commission’ to carry on the related duties was established: the correspondence between the protagonists shows the difficulties in approaching the issue.
