Perché lo specchio metafisico? La letteratura se non è metafisica non è. I linguaggi se non abitano lo specchio non vivono. Letteratura, filosofia e antropologia sono uno specchio della metafisica. Il quale ha bisogno della parola che si racconta nelle immagini. Negli scenari immaginari. Raccontando pezzi di vita ho raccolto ciò che ho vissuto. Bisogna sempre scrivere di ciò che si conosce. Nulla ha senso tranne il vissuto abitato. Tranne ciò che si abita vivendolo. Questo libro? Non è un libro. Sono pagine intrecciate lungo i fiumi e gli orizzonti della consapevolezza. Soltanto se si è in rivolta possono dare un senso. Sono pagine di erranza. Resto un errante tra testimoni eretici. L'isola della parola è incastrata nello specchio metafisico. Ho scritto questa nota per non dire. O per dire. Chi leggerà saprà. Chi non dovesse leggere vivrà tra gli orizzonti e il mare. Chi rimanderà la lettura capirà che oltre può esserci altro. La magia è non raccontabile e il mistero si trova nel sacro e nei riti del mito. Insomma, procediamo. Pierfranco Bruni è nato in Calabria. Archeologo direttore del Ministero Beni Culturali, già componente della Commissione UNESCO per la diffusione della cultura italiana all'Estero, è presidente del Centro Studi “Grisi”. Ha pubblicato libri di poesia (tra i quali "Via Carmelitani", "Viaggioisola", “Per non amarti più", "Fuoco di lune", "Canto di Requiem"), racconti e romanzi (tra i quali vanno ricordati "L'ultima notte di un magistrato", "Paese del vento", "L’ultima primavera", “E dopo vennero i sogni", "Quando fioriscono i rovi"). Si è occupato di letteratura del Novecento con libri su Pavese, Pirandello, Alvaro, Grisi, D'Annunzio, Carlo Levi, Quasimodo, Ungaretti, Cardarelli, Gatto, Penna, Vittorini e la linea narrativa e poetica novecentesca che tratteggia le eredità omeriche e le dimensioni del sacro. Numerosi sono i suoi testi sulla letteratura italiana ed europea del Novecento. Ha scritto saggi sulle problematiche relative alla cultura poetica della Magna Grecia e si considera profondamente mediterraneo. Ha scritto, tra l'altro, un libro su Fabrizio De André e il Mediterraneo (“Il cantico del sognatore mediterraneo", giunto alla terza edizione), nel quale campeggia un percorso sulle matrici letterarie dei cantautori italiani, ovvero sul rapporto tra linguaggio poetico e musica. Un tema che costituisce un modello di ricerca sul quale Bruni lavora da molti anni.

This collection draws on cutting-edge work that crosses traditional disciplinary boundaries to offer new perspectives on the importance of visuality and the imagination in the work of Luigi Pirandello, the great Italian modernist. The volume re-examines traditional critical notions central to the study of Pirandello by focusing on the importance of the visual imagination in his poetics and aesthetics, an area of multimedia investigation which has not yet received ample attention in English-language books. Putting scholarship on Pirandello in conversation with new work on the multimedia dimensions of modernism, the volume examines how Pirandello worked across and was adapted through multiple media. It also brings Pirandello into a cross-disciplinary dialogue with new approaches to Italian cultural studies to show how his work remains relevant to scholarly conversations across the field. The essays in this collection highlight the ways in which Pirandello is engaged not only in literature and theatre but also in the visual arts, film, and music. At the same time, they emphasize the ways in which this multimedia creativity enables Pirandello to pursue complex philosophical thoughts, and how scholars’ interpretation of his works can provide new insights into problems facing us today. Crossing from aesthetics and a study of modernist notions of creative imagination into studies of multimedia works and adaptations, the volume argues that Pirandello should be understood as a thinker in images whose legacy can be felt across the arts and into the realm of 21st-century theories of literary cognition.
