L'Ospedale Serbelloni, realizzato a metà del XIX secolo nella città di Gorgonzola, in provincia di Milano, e ancora oggi in parte utilizzato come tale, può diventare un riferimento. Questo imponente edificio, progettato da uno dei più rappresentativi architetti della cultura architettonica lombarda dell'Ottocento: Giacomo Moraglia, perdendo gradualmente la sua funzione, ha smarrito sempre più la sua identità, sino ad innescare una generale disattenzione verso il suo valore architettonico e non solo. L'edificio, di notevole complessità architettonica, è stato - quindi - analizzato a partire dalla stratificazione del territorio, che ha avuto un ruolo notevole nella progettazione, nelle sue implicazioni tipologiche, in un momento storico cruciale per la conoscenza medica e i risvolti architettonici, così come è stato indagato il percorso professionale dell'architetto che può aver determinato le scelte adottate a Gorgonzola, anche in relazione a vincoli e normative valide non solo in ambito lombardo. Sostenuto dalla comunità locale e con il contributo di autori specialisti nei vari ambiti, questo volume costituisce un tentativo di recuperare la complessità dell'edificio, dalla elaborazione progettuale sino allo stato attuale, con la speranza della sua futura valorizzazione. Damiano Iacobone (1970), laureato in Architettura al Politecnico di Milano (1995), ha conseguito successivamente il Dottorato di ricerca in Storia dell'architettura e dell'urbanistica e insegna Storia dell'architettura al Politecnico di Milano. E' autore di numerosi saggi relativi alla storia dell'architettura, in particolar modo del periodo medievale e del XIX secolo, e delle monografie Città e cittadelle in età medievale e moderna. "Dall'esperienza viscontea al fronte bastionato", Milano 2007 e "Gli anfiteatri in Italia tra tardo antico e medioevo", Roma 2008 (Gangemi Editore).

This book uses the reflection of academics specialized in the urban area of Latin America, Europe and the United States, to initiate a comparative debate of the different dynamics in which Urbicidio expresses itself. The field or focal point of analysis that this publication approaches is the city, but under a new critical perspective of inverse methodology to that has been traditional used. It is about understanding the structural causes of self-destruction to finally thinking better and then going from pessimism to optimism. It is a deep look at the city from an unconventional entrance, because it is about knowing and analyzing what the city loses by the action deployed by own urbanites, both in the field of its production and in the field of its consumption. This suppose that the city does not have an ascending linear sequential evolution in its development but neither in each of its parts in the improvement process, showing the face that commonly not seen but others live. The category used for this purpose is that of Urbicidio or the death of the city, which contributes theoretically and methodologically to the knowledge of the city, as well as to the design of urban policies that neutralize it. In addition, it is worth mentioning that the book has an inclusive view of the authors. For this reason, gender parity, territorial representation and the presence of age groups have been sought.
